Title: Ann BROOME, Dawley
Post by: brushbroomstick on Sunday 20 March 11 11:01 GMT (UK)
Trying to trace parents of ANN/ANNIE BROOME born 1869 "South Wales"who was living with her grandparents John & Sarah Anne BROOME in Dawley from 1871 census onwards.
Possible mothers are John & Sarah Anne's daughters MARIA, JANE or LUCY.
Possible registration Sept 1869 Ludlow 6a532.
If ANN/ANNIE was baptised it would have been in the Dawley area although I have been unable to find it.

Have you found Ann/Annie in any of the census after 1871?  If so, what does her place of birth say?

If she was born in South Wales then I would have thought she was baptised there ???

We need to narrow down some of the details first :D

p.s. I don't think the birth for Ludlow is right as there's a BROOME family in 1871 in Ludlow with a 1 year old daughter Ann.
Note that "your" Ann in Madeley with her grandparents is shown as BROOM (without the E)

In 1861 I cannot find John & Sarah Anne and any family living with them although they appear to have been in the Dawley area as later children were all born there. The only one of the  3 girls (JANE, LUCY and MARIA) I have found is Maria shown as MARRION visiting family in Weston under Lizard Staffs.
I cannot find any of the 3 girls in 1871.
EDIT - I have found JANE as a general servant at Donnington Wood Farm Lillieshall AND
LUCY general Servant in Moss side Manchester

In 1875 JANE gave birth to an illegitimate son while living with an aunt & uncle in Middlesbrough.
Ann is still with her grandparents in Pool Hill Square Dawley in 1881 but not 1891. In 1881 her place of birth is given as "South Water". I have found no trace of her after the 1881 census.
Throughout various records the surname is sometimes BROOM and sometimes BROOME.
This info may not be enough

The birth that Morganllan has found looks good.
Edited:  I've found that Annie Broom in the 1871 in Monmouth with parents William, Ellen and siblings - so not the right one  :(

In 1881 her place of birth is given as "South Water"

It's a mistranscription - I've had a look at the census image and it does say South Wales

I don't think this is my MARIA as she always gives her place of birth as Liverpool 1846 as does her sister JANE born 1848 who was baptised 31 Dec 1848 in Malinslee. I don't know how long JOHN and SARAH ANNE were in Liverpool but my gr grandfather THOMAS BROOME was born in Old Park Dawley 4 Oct 1843 and LUCY was born 1850 in Dawley and baptised 17 Feb in Malinslee.
