Hello,
Please could someone do a lookup for me for a marriage circa. 1906 between Hilda White bm 1887 and Clement (or Robert) Walker b. 1877.
Greatly appreciate any help.

Hi Erica
May help with look up if you post middle names -especially full name for Clement -and p.o.b. and possibilities of how they changed names around

Thanks Suz!
Please could someone do a lookup for me for a marriage circa. 1906 between Hilda Grace White b. 1887 in Hackney and Clement Robertson Walker (could also have been known as Robert Clement Walker) b. 1877 in St Thomas, Exeter, Devon.
Thank you so much!

Do you know they married in Scotland rather than England? They were both born well south in England, were either of them in Scotland in 1901?
You can search for the marriage on the ScotlandsPeople site, which is pay per view for everyone.

there looks to have been a prior marriage
Clement Robertson Walker march qtr 1903 Hackney vol 1b pg 513 to either Florence Edith Lough or Alice Ellen Bennett

Thank you Osprey! :)

Thanks Nell!
Have searched everywhere for a marriage btw Clement and Hilda with no luck. Thought that they may have married out of the country, and his father was born in Scotland, si thought it may be a possibility?
-
the other male on the page is Isaac Wright, and there's a Wright birth registered Hackney in 1913 with mmn Bennett, so Clement may have married Florence. Saying that, Wright & Bennett aren't uncommon, so it could be a coincidence.

Hi Osprey!
Think we have evidence that Clement married Florence and had a daughter, Vera, but seems to be living with Hilda!
-
divorce not particularly likely at this time, so living with, rather than married to might be the case.

Do you think so, Osprey? I've searched high and low for records of a divorce from Florence and/or Hilda, and can't find anything!
-
divorce wasn't affordable - cost of a lawyer & filing a petition in the London registry. It also took time. The husband could divorce on the grounds of adultery alone, the wife had to prove another offence as well until 1923

Very interesting reading and food for thought - adds a whole new dimension to the situation!

I come a little late to this discussion (as always !) but Florence Edith Walker is a part of my extended family. Ancestry has her marriage to Clement Robertson Walker in 1903 but thereafter they both seem to disappear. Can you enlighten me as to the "Hilda" connection ? I am not not entirely convinced that the Florence Edith Walker I have found on the 1911 census at 86, Langham Road, South Tottenham is in fact the correct person.
Ian Sheppard.

There is a death of a Florence Edith Walker aged 24 in freebmd.org.uk in the quarter of March 1906 in Kensington 1a. Could this be the reason her daughter was with Hilda?

Thank you for that. Since my posting I have come across other posts on Rootschat which suggest that Vera Florence was baptised in about 1906 at Tottenham and that her parents were indeed Florence Edith W. and Clement Robertson W. - in which case the 1911 census identification is in fact correct.
I had not realised, nor thought about the fact that Walker is/was such a common name.
My interest lies in the LOUGH side of the business because I am one.
