Hi All,
I seek details of the family of John Hilton and Emma Rebecca Burton Hilton (nee Nelson), both deceased. John served in WWI and Emma is burried in Riverstone Cemetery, Sydney. I believe they had ten children, all of whom may also be deceased. Any information about my Aunt Emma's family would be greatly appreciated. - John

Hi John,
As they were married in 1913, most of their children will have been born after the 1918 limit of publicly available indexes. If you get a transcription of either John or Emma's death certificate it should list all children by name. Details of how to obtain a transcription
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/howToTraceYouFamTree.htm#TranscriptionAgent
If either of them died before 1954 you can also check for a death notice
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home
Some later death and funeral notices are indexed and they will do a look up for you.

Someone will come along soon and have a look up to 1918 for you.
Debra :)

Perhaps you have all this info...

This certificate would give you Emma's parents' names and her place of birth. You can purchase a transcription of the certificate from a transcription agent for about $18 and the transcript is emailed.

NSW online birth regs are only available to 1910. Some chatters have resources for births to 1918, and may help you.

You can search here for death notices...quite a few of the family names here including one for an Emma in 1973...died in Southport Hospital so death not on NSW death index.

However all this aside, you need the marriage cert to find Emma's parents and her place of birth.

Not quite in Sydney: Riverstone is situated between the Richmond Road running from Blacktown to Richmond, and the Windsor Road running from Windsor to North Parramatta.

Hi Dundee & Cando,
Many thanks for your information. It is much appreciated.
Cando, your information from the Australian Electoral Rolls appears to be bang-on, as I can remember visiting the Trade Street home when I was a kid no older than about 5 years old.
How are the Australian Electoral Roll records accessed; are they available online?
Re my quest for details on this Hilton family I have the basic details of marriage etc as available from NSW BDM, but have not been able to contact anyone from, or knows of, the ten children or their families who might be able to provide details and confirm that what I have is correct.
I don't know if all ten names I have are correct or if any are still living, thus I cannot name names.
I don't want to put unconfirmed info into a formal computerised family tree record, but, Cando, it looks like what you have provided gives me confirmation of the names of at least five of the children.
I am relatively new to family tree research and just joined RootsChat this last week. Going by the quantity and quality of postings I have a lot to learn in research processes. Again, many thanks for your assistance.
Regards, John.

This will help you further with your research....
*Transcriptions of John and Emma's marriage certificate [parents' names] and John Henry's death certificate [children's names both living at deceased] will give you the information you need. Details of information on certificates in NSW and how to purchase transcriptions already on the thread.
*The death notice from the Ryerson Index for Emma HILTON.
Have you searched the Ryerson Index for death notices for the children? Both of the following are listed on the index and once again you can request a lookup on the Ryerson website.
You can search to 1960 on the NSW bdm for the marriages of the children as you have their names. A couple to get you started :)

There are lots of links to resources and offers at the top of the Australian Board both for Australia and NSW

Cando,
Again many thanks for your guidance and hints. You are a real gem. Now I have an approach that I can follow, as time permits, but I would still like to find someone with intimate knowledge of the family to give me some confidence in what I have todate and hope to find in the future.
Regards, John

Hi John,
I'm a direct descendant of all mentioned and remember most if not all of the Hiltons you've mentioned.
Feel free to contact me.

Hi CHB,
I'm so pleased to make contact with a possible family member. Once you have made at least three postings on this site you will gain access to the Personal Messaging System that would allow us to communicate with each other on a private basis and exchange personal contact details without them being visible to the whole world.
Emma was my father's big sister and I was born in Sydney but now live in Melbourne.
If you acknowledge this message you will be two thirds of the way towards being able to use the Personal messaging system.
Do you know Shirley B ? If so do not quote her full name in a reply as living people should not be identified online.
Regards,
John
