Hi,
I'm to to find some information re Stephen Cureton, born 16 July 1845 to John Cureton and Maria Glaze.
John and Maria married 24 May 1840 at Madeley Shropshire. Their respective fathers were Thomas Cureton and George Glaze.
John and Maria had the following children:
30 Jan 1842 - George Reece Cureton
16 Aug 1843 - Barnard John Cureton
16 Jul 1845 - Stephen Cureton
26 May 1847 - Herbert Cureton
22 Aug 1849 - Agnes Hannah Cureton
08 Oct 1851 - Clara Maria Cureton
There may be additional children that I have not located.
Stephen Cureton appears to have been a colourful character in the history of several countries, from Canada, America, New Zealand and Australia. Allegedly he was a journalist and a bit of an ideas man. He features in the development of the Chaffey brothers irrigation development of north west Victoria. The region now being know as Sunraysia with Mildura being the major city in the region.
I'm interested in finding out more about Stephen Cureton for local history purposes. Are there any descendants from his siblings that know anything about him? Did he have offspring of his own? and does anyone know when and where he died?
The last know record for him is at Panton Hill (near Hurstbridge) just outside of Melbourne Australia in 1896.
Thank you for any information you can provide.

Hi Abygaill,
Have you tried posting for info on him on the Australian Board.
I did a quick Victorian BMD search under Stephen Cureton and there are 2 Records.
There are some amazing Rootschatters on the Oz Board who have access to Records I dont.
OOPs, found something;
Australian Marriage Index 1788-1950
Stephen CURETON
Annie PEERS
1888, Victoria, Reg No 7080
Annie Cureton died 1939, Victoria, Age 83, Birth c 1856,
Parents HUMPHREY Peers and Mary HALES
Someone has a Tree with 2 Children to Stephen/Annie;
ROSE ESTHER 1890-1982, Married Frank TOOGOOD 1922
LILLY 1893-1977,Married William HIDDLESTONE 1916
By narrowing down years progressively I searched for his Death on Victorian BMD and he died between 1908/1909 I think.
Trish :)
EDIT;
Several family Trees have him listed on the 1851/1861 Census.
I found he was still in England in 1871 under Careton in Liverpool, Lancashire.
He is an unmarried and an Assistant to a SilkMercer (presume Shopkeeper)

Thank you Trish,
I'm have a few issues with my Digger CD's, they get huffy when I have long periods where they sit in the draw unused. Just have to be patient and nice to them and try not to
hurl them out the window when they fail to open.
I will get them to run eventually. Great lead, thanks again.

Hi Abygail,

Hi Abygail,
Do you have what I posted?
Should I keep going or not?
Or does your interest just end at Stephens Parents?
Looks to me that Barnard and Family ended up in Australia also.
Trish :)

This would need to be checked.

Either he remarried a much younger Woman named Elizabeth or Elizabeths age is incorrect.

Hi Trish,
Do you have a date for when Barnard and family left for Australia? I will have a search through the arrival records I have.
Abygail
-
No date on Family Tree I found.
They have them going to New York and then to Australia. No dates given.
Barnard and Family are in Harbonne, Staffordshire in 1881 Census.
So they left the UK post 1881.
Quite a large space of time for them to Arrive in Australia.
Barnards (under Bernard J) Death was Reg 1905 on NSW BMD, St Leonards, Parents John/Maria.
Trish :)
EDIT Wife Sarah J Cureton (nee Picken) Death was Reg 1891 NSW
So that narrows down time frame.

Thanks Trish,
With a little bit of luck this will confirm a piece of information we already have. All I have to do now is to find when the family arrived into Australia ex New York.
Thank you again.
