Hi Mary,Thank you for your reply. If you could look this up for me I would be most grateful. Anything you can find on this family would be much appreciated as I've so far drawn a blank as to the origins of this family. I know that Edmund Wilson Lascelles was the son of Edmund Lascelles and jane Wilson.Edumnd Snr was born circa 1775 and died in Gibralter in 1850. He was a Lt Col in the Army and as in Ceylon when his son and subsequent children were born. He married Jane Wilson in 1802 in London and she died on St Helana in 1820 .He later remarried, again in London in 1823 to a Catherine Berry and had a further 3 daughters. Edmund Snr only appears on the 1841 census in Greenwich London,no help there as to where he was born of course! I have looked everywhere I can think of to find Edmund seniors birth without any luck. If you need any further dates, please contact me or you can look at my tree which is on the Ancestry site.
many thanks,
Regards,
Gwen

Hi Gwen,
Went to library today and found the death notice for
Edmond Wilson Lascelles as follows - Cork Examiner Apr 11 1855
"March 29th, in London, Captain Edmond Wilson Lascelles, late of
H.M.'s 22nd Regiment, aged 54."
Cork Examiner Aug 24 1865 for John Francis Lascelle
" On the 20th inst. at Springfield Lawn, The Park, Cheltenham,
Captain John Francis Lascelles, R.N. of Thrisk, Yorkshire"
Cork Examiner 1.05.1865 for Hon. Edwin Lascelles
"On 25th ult, at Wighill Park, Yorkshire, the Hon Edwin Lascelles, suddenly of apoplexy, aged 64"
I didn't get a chance to see Lady Caroline's one as my time was up. It would seem that the Hon Edwin was possibly Caroline's husband. You will probably find them on the peerage site.
For copyright reasons I can't post the actual newspaper articles here. If you want them I can scan them to you if you send me a PM with your email address. Under copyright law they are for personal use only.
Hope you have found a little clue in the above to help your search.
Regards
Mary

Can someone find an old 1856 death notice from the Cork Examiner. At Ancestry, I found a possible match for a maternal 4th great-grandmother. She was Elizabeth (Tongue) Hall of Dublin. I tried the British Newspaper Archive, but they don't include that year.
Elizabeth's late husband, Samuel Hall, was a comb-maker at Pill Lane and later at Arran Quay in Dublin. Here's the information I found:
NAME: HALL, Elizabeth
PLACE OF DEATH: Dublin DUB IRL
PUBLICATION ABBREVIATION: Cork Examiner (COR IRL)
PUBLICATION DATE:1856-12-08

"On the 4th inst,. at his residence, North Great George's Street, Dublin, Elizabeth, wife of John Hall, solicitor."

Thanks for helping! So, that can't be my ancestor. Perhaps, the John Hall mentioned in the notice was a son of my ancestor. She had a son named John. I'll have to see if the street mentioned in the notice has any connection to my Halls or comb-making. I'm a descendant of Elizabeth (Tongue) Hall through her daughter Emma. She married John Hanly who was a math teacher at the King's Hospital School in Dublin. Emma immigrated to the U.S, in 1886 with her daughter's family, the Heaps (my ancestors). Thanks again!
