Title: Offer:Queensland Electoral Rolls 1839 -1925
Post by: LHurrey on Tuesday 23 August 11 11:43 BST (UK)
Hi,

My University Library has paper copies of electoral rolls up until 2000. I am willing to do lookups of names in regions. Obviously, the more information you can provide the better as there are many volumes each year!

Cheers,

Lucy

Modified to add dates available:

Library has (some state and some commonwealth): 1893-1915; 1925; 1977-1979; 1961-1983; 1983; 1984-2000.
Library lacks: G-W 1893; 1897; G-W 1899; 1902; A-E 1913; A-M 1925

Hi Lucy.
Could you please look for Gwenda Ruby Hansen for me in the 2000 electoral roll. In 1980 she was living in a suburb named Graceville (a suburb of Brisbane).
Thanking you
Mariona

You may be on holidays now but I would like to know about my husbands parents They lived in Allenstown Rockhampton. I met Grandfather Bill in 1964 but his wife was already deceased. William Edward Smith born 1872 in Birmingham Warickshire She wife was Ada Goodwin Smith born 1872 in Weeping Cross Staffordshire. Deaths unknown I am not even sure if this information is true as I can find no record of their births so I hope you are lucky Thanks Anne

Queensland deaths are only indexed up to 1964.
Do you have any idea of when Ada died, or her parents names?
Or when they came to Australia?
There is no Ada Goodwin Smith death listed (Qld) 1/1/1900 to 31/12/1964 but there are
9 with just Ada as first name/s, and 5 of these are in country locations (assuming she died in Rockhampton).

Grandfather Bill presumably lasted after 1964 as he doesn't come up in a search either.

There is a William Smith aged 95 death, 30 August 1976, buried North Rocky Cemetery - This is the largest cemetery in Rockhampton, as far as I am aware.  Religion listed as C/E.
If he was born 1872 then the age is wrong but I note you don't have his actual birth detail?

No Ada Smith in North Rockhampton Cem.

There is a cemetery listed as South Rockhampton, which would be the closest to Allenstown, but neither of them appear to be there, and most of the dates seem much earlier than the 1960s.

Hi, can you please help me and check the electoral roles for Queensland for my aunt - Dorothy E Savage (b. 1925) and cousin Michael Savage (b.1950?).

They emigrated to Australia in 1980 and for a time lived in Deception Bay.

Many thanks
Lyn.

Online electoral information is not available post 1980.  You would need someone to visit an electoral office to search for this information.

Do you kow of these people are deceased?   If not we are unable to help you as rootschat has a policy of not permitting information on the website about living people.

Could someone please check for William Blair and/or Daisy Alice Blair or Daisy Alice Meiers on the 1950-51 electoral rolls? They should be in Queensland maybe around Enoggera. I know they married sometime between 1949 and 1954. I just don't know when. I have them in 1949 and 1954.

Thanks so much, Sherry Harris

What are annotated electoral rolls and how can they be used?

These rolls are marked with:

Quote
the new surname of a recently married woman
[/color]
    change of address
date of notification of someone’s death

As a result, these rolls can flag which other electorate to search or approximately when someone died. The rolls are held at:

1918-1968: National Archives of Australia Commonwealth electorates
1915-1992: Queensland State Archives State electorates

NB:  The annotated rolls are held at the two archival institutions only.

Hi Sherry,
Unfortunately, my library does not hold any rolls for those years. Good luck in your search! Cando has provided some great info.

hi guys
i have found on ancestry.com that you can search the QLD electoral rolls back to 1910, as i did researching my local area history, then i found when you look at the original record, you can change the date to find additional rolls for a particular area where you think the person you are looking for may be but do not appear in the search categories because of a change in spelling of the name, ie, vipon or vipond.

Hi Lucy and thank you for your kind offer.
I am researching Margaret McCREADIE and her children Jane, Isabella and John who emigrated to Innisfail circa 1882.

On his Army enlistment papers, John asserted he was 3-years old upon arrival in Australia. However, it must be stated he claimed his age as 30-years when he was, in fact, almost 37 years old; I have his Birth Certificate.

Regards and thank you once again.

Hi Q98,

Perhaps if you narrow down the search a little for me as these are hard copy rolls in book form - no search facility. Are you looking for the entire family from 1882 onwards? Only in Innisfail? Or a specific person in the family?

Cheers,
Lucy

Thanks Lucy, having located the three children, I am searching for Margaret (m.s. NELSON) McCREADIE.  The following sumarises what I am certain of:
a.  On her 1871 Marriage Extract, her age is recorded as 24 years, making her DOB circa 1847,
b.  From my searches of ScotlandsPeople, I have deduced she did not remarry, and
c.  The children retained their McCREADIE surname in Australia.

The following is provided to hopefully better direct your search on my behalf:
a.  John (b. 09 July 1879, Scotland), upon enlistment (14 February 1916) at Townsville, asserted he was residing at Mourilyan (Occupation Fitter & Turner) and was 3-years old upon arrival in Australia,
b.  Above appears to indicate the family's arrival during 1882, and
c.  HOWEVER, he also claimed his age as 30-years when, in fact, he was almost 37 years and
d.  Eldest of the siblings, Jane married in Innisfail during 1895 and is buried in Innisfail Cemetery.

Therefore, we can assume (how I loathe that word) the family arrived during period 1882-1895 and resided in or around Innisfail.
