Hi again everyone! Thanks for your help with my previous requests. I have another one...
I'm trying to get hold of the descendants of Syd (Sydney?) Kingsford (d. 1967, age 78). He was based in Christchurch, but it seems he moved to Wellington around 1917/18. He was a carpenter, and in CHCH worked with his father Shrewsbury Fredrick Kingsford. His mother was Mary Williams (http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&cl=search&d=TS18830221.2.7&srpos=1&e=-------100--1----2S+Kingsford--)
This article seems to be about him, and says that he married in 1916 and had 7 children: http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&cl=search&d=NZTR19300828.2.22.1&srpos=7&e=-------100--1----2Sydney+Kingsford--
Syd played a prominent part in radical labour circles in Christchurch leading up to the First World War, and as part of my research on this topic I would love to track down his family and any possible papers they might have.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Have you thought of accessing the local white pages and ringing any Kingsfords on spec. Look for what looks like family names. The Kiwis are always very friendly. Good luck with your search.

Hello,
Have you checked the Kingsford family tree?
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~speedo
I note Shewsbury is a prominent Christian name.
My interest in the Kingsbury family stems from my Grandmother's sister marrying Frederick William Cunningham Kingsford (1905 - 1993). Fred was also in the building industry & lived in Christchurch NZ.
Happy hunting, Valsgirl

Sorry the previous Kingsbury family tree link I posted doesn't work. Try

Too early in the morning here in Brisbane, Aus. Of course that should be Kingsford family tree!
-
That's him, for sure! And it looks like Frederick was his son. How can we get in touch with the researcher(*). I might have to scrounge through the Wellington Yellow Pages for some phone numbers....
Thanks Valsgirl!

Hi there. My name is Leesa. My grandfather name was Francis Henry Kingsford who is also a son of Sydney Kingsford Sr. With great sadness i didn't know anything about my grandfather as he left when my father was only three. I have just started to do my family tree on the kingsford side so awesome I have found relations!! If anyone has any news on my grandad Francis Henry I would be so happy!!😀
-
Hello Leesa,
Welcome to Rootschat. :)
Can you tell us when and where approximately, your grandfather was born?
Minniehaha.
-
Hi minniehaha
I know my grandad Francis Kingsford was the youngest son of Sydney Kingsford as my dad has a copy of my Nana's and grandad's wedding certificate that states he was the youngest son of Sydney. My mum also remembers my nana saying Francis was 20 years old when they got married. The date they got married was 2 December 1948. So he was born the year 1928. I'm pretty sure he was born in Wellington.😀
-
Is he still alive??
His death not found on NZ BDM......
Minniehaha.
-
That's what I would like to know too. Sorry I have no glue. But I think he was living in Melbourne definitely Australia when he left my nana.
-
Why don't you try posting your enquiry on the Australian board?
[We are however not allowed to post names of the living]
Minniehaha.

Hi Leesa
I saw your post re Sydney Kingsford. I am the GG grandson of Shrewsbury Kingsford (1837-1902)who lived in Christchurch. I have 3 Sydney's listed: Sydney Charles, Sydney William and Sydney James. Sydney James (1889-1965) was the son of Shrewsbury(1861-1925). Let me know if this is the one you are looking for.
Cheers Greg

Hi Garagecollective
Just saw your message re Sydney Kingsford (builder)from some time back. Would be very interested to see if you found out any information on him and his activities with industrial labour. I did have a look on your website but unable to find anything. Many thanks.
Cheers
