Does anyone know of where an Ordnance store would be in Stirling around 1900 - 1927. Although he was a Tailor, my Great Grandfather's occupation at his death in 1927 was an Ordnance Store Worker. Thanks.

There was as Ordnance Depot at Throsk which is about 4 miles east of Stirling on the south bank of the river Forth. Between Fallin and South Alloa.
It was on the site of the present 'Bandeath Industrial Estate'
Cheers.

Yes there was an Ordnance Store at Stirling ( Regional Depot Stirling Royal Army Ordnance Corps. It was sited in the Riverside area, across from the new footbridge at the railway station. It started in the Victorian times and was relocated in 1980 to the Kerse Road area, next to the REME Workshop. Some of the old Victorian buildings are still there, near the Vue Cinema. The unit included a tailor shop. The depot at Throsk was known as Royal Navy Armaments Depot Bandeath. Ships used to come up as far as Throsk to re-arm.

My grandfather was an ordnance store clerk in 1929 when he was living in Bannockburn, so there must be a good chance he was based at one of these depots. Does anyone know if staff lists are available?

I believe Stirling Castle was an Ordnance Store too.

Hayford Mill on the outskirts of Cambusbarron was an Ordnance store too. My uncle Eion Wilson worked there along with a neighbour of ours in the Cornton - Chris Williamson
