Hello, I am trying to trace Alexander McKenzie believed born 1821 at Strathconnon Parish of Contin. I also believe he was married on the 30.12.1853 at Urray. Any information on Alexander's birth and marraige details would be very helpful.
Thanks Maddie

Hello, I am researching Alexander McKenzie, born 1821 in Strathconnon, Parish of Contin. I am looking for his date of borth and also his parents name. I believe he was married in Urray on the 30.12.1853 to Isabella McRae. Any information would be helpful.
Thanks. Maddie

Hi
He married Isabella MacRae according to the IGI entry
Because they married before 1855 - you may get very little useful info from the marriage entry - this is from the Scotlands People website
INFORMATION IN AN OPR BANNS & MARRIAGES RECORD
Do not expect too much from OPR banns & marriages records. The amount of information recorded can be variable and most entries contain very little detail.
At best: date(s) of the proclamation of intended marriage and/or date of marriage, names of bride and groom and their parish of residence, sometimes the occupation of the groom and occasionally the name of the bride's father.
At worst:the names of the bride and groom recorded along with the fee paid in caution.
You would be better looking for his death cert as that will give you his parents names and his mothers maiden name
Do you know when he died?

Have I got the right 1861 entry - living in Nairnshire?
Alexander McKenzie 38 b Contin - quarryman
Isabella 28 b Urray
Donald 6 b Inverness
John 4 b Nairn
Christina 2 b Nairn
Nairn ED 2 Page 12 Line 18

Not sure the marraige was proclaimed 0n the 26th December 1853. Thats all I have got.

Hi Maddie :)
Could this be his baptism:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/VQQB-CFJ
Do you have a list of his children in date order - they might have used the trad naming pattern.

The baptism entry has their abode as something that looks like Phirbui(e) - I don't see it on the map yet but will look on the NLS maps site :)

PS - nearest so far is Fairburn but I'm not that confident of that
-
Hi GNU. I realised I was in the wrong area. This looks useful but agree dont understnd the place.
Thanks

I was passed there this morning :D
Just bringing this from your other thread as it lists the children:
Could be correct as i believe the children were Kenneth,Duncan,Isabella,Betsy,Amelia,ALexander,Christina,John,Daniel.
Maddie
These don't seem to fit with the parents that I've found -will check to see if there's a Kenneth having children in the area around then.

Hi GNU,
Thanks

The 1861 is the right entry so it may be as well to have this post merged with the other
CHRISTINA MAC KENZIE Birth: 01 FEB 1859 Nairn Father: ALEXANDER MAC KENZIE Mother: ISABELLA MC RAE

Hi Maddie
Where did you find that he was born in Strathconon? I note that he was working at Muir of Ord when he married.

-
Parent search on IGI shows children John 1857, Alexander 1863 and Emelia 1865 all b Nairn
Also - Donald b 1854 Inverness
-
yes Carole but we're trying to find Alexander's baptism - his death will be difficult as this name was a bit like John Brown in the Highlands
gnu
-
I know - but there are so many of that name I thought it may be better to track him via the children through the censuses to see when he died - possibly in Nairn
His death cert will give his parents names and therefore make it easier to pinpoint the right baptismal entry
-
I'm trying to trace back - a possible in Urray in 1851 - that's next door to Contin. Muir of Ord (where he was in 1853) is in Kilmorack, Invernesshire.
-
Have you found them after the 1861, apart from the births?
-
Just found this posting:
Looking for any info on Alexander MacKenzie born Jan 1823 in Contin and believe he died March 1899. I believe his father was William MacKenzie born May 1806 in Parish of Contin.
Any information would be useful
Thanks

Thanks Gnu
Maddie - if he died in 1899 - have you not viewed his death cert to get his parents names and mothers maiden name?
-
Hi,
yes this looks correct
Thanks
Maddie

Maddie
-

looks like there's another related thread:

Of particular interest~
From the burial records of Cambusnethan cemetery -
ALEXANDER McKENZIE, quarryman, Wishaw, aged 66 years, married.
Parents - Donald McKenzie & Isabella McCrae.
Interred in plot D121, 25th October 1888.
There may have been some confusion with the parents of Alexander who died in 1888, looks as though the widow's name was entered where his mother's name should have been. Or, his mother may also have been an Isabella McCrae, you would have to check the death certificate.
The IGI has a marriage for Aleander McKenzie and Isabella Macrae on 30th December 1853 at Urray, Ross & Cromarty.
There is also someone from Helensburgh making submissions for this family on the IGI.

I've checked the death cert on SP as it looks as if I'd accessed it before, so no credits to pay. The parents are given as
Donald McKenzie, farmer (deceased) and Isabella M.S McRae (deceased)
