Title: Schreders in Illinois
Post by: LaytonLily on Monday 09 April 12 14:00 BST (UK)
I have eventually managed to find information on my mother's aunt (Emily Layton from Malvern, Eng.) who married Otto Schreder (who was originally from Germany) and they emigrated to live in Illinois in 1907.   I would love to find out more information about them, and especially to be in contact with a descendant.

Wow, wow and wow !!   What amazing results - only a little bit short of actually getting in touch with descendants !   Thank you very much.  I will look , read and absorb all the information you have sent to me.  Can you say where you are living ? (the country / state)  In USA ?

Sandra you very kindly found information for me on my mother's aunt and her family who emigrated to Illinois.  I wonder if you could help me further or tell me where I might find the information - I should like to know if it possible to obtain the service record of George Henry Schreder who was in the US Marine Corps in WW11, joining in 1942.  Or some information on his time in the war.  also to know was he a career marine or just for the war ?   Was he married and if so, did he have children ?  Emily and Otto had two other children -  Margarette b: 1904 and Lilian C.b: 1911.    Is it possible to find out if they married ?   I understand the 1940 USA census is now available - how do I access that please ?  Or is it accessible for people in England ?

The 1940  USA census should show the children as adults and where they lived.

Sorry if it is too many questions !   But I am always impressed how much information people on Roots.web seem to have at their fingertips !

Hi Layton Lily,

Apologises must have missed your reply.  I did look around for both daughters but had no luck with those or finding the deth detials for Emily.
Wondered if this was George Schreder under Schrader living in Peek Street. Muskegon, Muskegon, Michigan in 1930 with a wife and child. George born 1905 England, immigrated 1907 and naturalized seems to fit. Father born Germany and Mother in England. Looks like he had been married for 2 years. Salesman for hardware store. The daughter was born in Michigan,  Iva aged 23  years (married at 20 years) born in Canada was the daughter of Nellie Foster also on this census sheet. Immigrated in 1922 (AL)

Checking the birth records - brother Raymond was Ernest Raymond Foster - parents William Harrison Foster and mother Sarah E Owens.

Iva seems to be Mary Iva born 3 rd April 1907 - parents William H Foster and Sarah E Owens.

On a Michigan Passenger Crew List for 15th May 1923 -  Port of Arrival :- Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan - Iva Foster aged 16 years, (which ties in with the information on the 1930 Census) exceot the birth date is given as 26th February 1907  ??? Iva is a student. Accompanied by mother :- Sarah Foster and going to her brother Harry Foster, 81 S Terrace. Muskegon. Michigan.
Sarah Foster aged 42 years also crossed the border.

On the brief look so far, can't positively tie in a death record to Iva or Mary Iva - will have another look later.
