Title: Andrews, woollen manufacturer, of Cork City

I am searching for information on Richard Andrews and wife Eliza or Elizabeth Craig, early 1800s Cork. He was listed as  a " manufacturer of woollens" on his daughter's marriage certificate.
I know he had at least two daughters, Emma and one other but I am not sure of her name.
I would be grateful for any information as I am totally new to Irish research.

Slater's 1846 has a possible listing,...

  Richard Andrews, wool comber. &c., 78 Shandon st

He's also listed in the section for 'Card Makers (Wire) for Wool, Cotton &c'

Richard is listed on Griffith's Valuation at that address, and leasing a house and yard from a Thomas Harrison. The date for this entry is    1852.

If you google "andrews wool cork" you find a few items of interest

has an extract from The Cork examiner dated 4th Feb 1846 reporting the marriage of William Casey to Hester Mary, eldest daughter of Mr Richard Andrews, both of Cork City. Celebrant was Rev John Holland.

It maybe the same Rev John Holland who was parish priest in Passage West 1847 to 1858.

Before this he was a curate in 1836 in North Parish, Cork.

There maybe a connection?

There is also a Richard Andrews, in Pigots & Co 1824:  worsted manufacturer 134 Shandon

Again there's a Richard Andrews in Aldwell's General Post Office Directory in 1845. Wool comber 56 Shandon St.

Keep in mind there may be more then one 'Richard Andrews'. I noticed a Richard Andrews in the 1860/70's on IrishGenealogy as the father at baptisms. Might be a son? or nephew?

Curiously in 1875 there is also a Thomas Andrews, wool merchant, 70 Shandon St. in Cork City Residence.

I am interested in the marriage you mention as William Henry Casey, son of George Baxter Casey, did marry an Andrews but it was thought in the family that she was Henrietta. Could this be a mistake in the paper or are we mistaken in the family.

Henrietta or Hester died in 1853 and William Henry  Casey went to Australia where in 1858 he married a sister of the first wife, Emma Maria Andrews, (who followed him out there) my great great grandmother.
William had two children to first wife, ? Andrews, one of whom was Richard who also went to Australia and settled.
There is a good deal of info on the Australian lines but nothing much  on the Irish ancestors apart from what little info is on the marriage cert of William Henry and Emma Maria.

Hi there PP,

My name is William (Bill Casey) and my family tree is on Ancestry.com I note your request here is a couple of years old, but teh WH Casey who married twice is my GGGrandfather. We visited his home town recently finding the site of the original house, graves etc. I believe GB Casey parents to be a William Casey and Mary Baxter, from scant family records. There is another GB Casey who went on to head a big family in Queensland. They claim GB Snr as an ancestor (wife Mary Caves) but I can't substantiate who this may be.

In case pink petunia does turn up, there is a Richard Andrews to Elizabeth Craig 1822 in the Marriage License books.
