I have a copy of "Cemetery Records of Inglewood" by Arthur Treble.
It contains records of burials from 1862 to 2007.
Most of the dates given are burial dates and not death.
Please dont ask for blanket Surname searches.

Hi Dale,
Could you please look up John Henry DAVEY, died 1864 in Inglewood.
Many thanks,
Mel
-
Hi Mel,
Sorry John Davey not listed.
The Preface to the booklet states "No dates and names for first part of 1864" (Part of page missing)
His death registration number #3806 suggests he would have died in the first half of 1864.
Burials before 1877 dont seem to have a plot location so unless there is a headstone the graves would be almost impossible to locate.
Regards Dale
-
Thanks for checking Dale.

Do you see anything for a child-
Alfred Plummer
Aged 6 months
died 29/12/1864
Bur. Inglewood
Thank you. Sue
-
Hi Sue,
No Plummers in the book. It states in the preface that part of the page for 1864 was missing from the original burial register.
Many of the very early burials seem to be unrecorded unless there is a headstone

Hi Dale, Very grateful for a look for Thomas Caldwell died 1891
Bill Thomson
Hi Bill,
Found Thomas in the Kingower Cemetery - doesnt have a headstone. His wife Mary also buried there.
Dale
-
Thanks once more for this information. Mary must have been his second wife, his first was Jane.
Regards
Bill
-
Hi Bill,
The only wife I have is Mary Pettit nee Sheedy who he married in Victoria in 1867.
Mary Caldwell died in 1906 at Mt Korong in 1906 aged 70 years - she was the daughter of Thomas Sheedy and Honorah Walsh
Thomas and Mary had 4 children together
Charles David born 1869 Inglewood , died in infancy death not recorded
James born 1870 Inglewood, died 1930 Long Gully, Bendigo
Charles David born 1876 Kingower, Inglewood, died 1938 Footscray
Mary Jane born 1879, Mt Korong, died 1947 Eaglehawk - married Frederick O'Brien - my grandmother's first cousin.
How does this match your information?
Dale
-
Hi Dale, My Thomas Caldwell was born about 1824 in Barr, Ayrshire, Scotland. Married Jane? abt.1845. Emigrated to Victoria in 1852 arriving on 10th Nov with wife and children, John 7 and Jane 5. Thomas died 1891at Inglewood. Did Jane die and he married again ?
Regards
Bill
-
Hi Bill,
A Thomas Caldwell married Mary Sheedy in 1867 in Victoria. They are both buried at Kingower.
There is one death of a Jane Caldwell in 1854 which is possibly his first wife - gives age as 33 years, born Kildare (Ireland?). Fathers name Farrell unknown, mother unknown
Another Jane died in 1866 aged 30 years - too young to be having children in 1845.
Have you been able to trace the children John and Jane?
Dale
-
Hi Dale, I have not been able to trace the children John and Jane. Mother Jane was born about 1824 in Glasgow I cannot find her maiden name. There was a Jane Caldwell died in 1903 at Yarra St. Victoria and born in 1823.
Regards
Bill
-
Hi Bill
Have sent you a PM on the subject of this Jane Caldwell
Dale
-
Hi Dale, I have found the story of Jane, Thomas Caldwell's first wife. Her maiden name was McLaughlan and she died 1 Apr 1861 and is buried in Kingower Cemetery. There is a headstone " Jane McLaughlan Caldwell". A possible for their son John is the death in NSW of John Caldwell in 1876 Father; Thomas, Mother; Jane, and also for their daughter Jane there a death recorded for 1878 in Gernsey? Victoria.
Regards
Bill Thomson
-
Hi Bill,
Thanks for that information.
I see Jane McLaughlan Caldwell on the Carol Judkin's Kingower Cemetery Headstones. Do you have a picture of this headstone and does it have an age for Jane.
Cant find a death registration for Jane on the Victorian BDM CDs - but husband may have forgot to do it
Also Jane the daughter cant find her death registered in Victoria either. Do you have a registration number for her death?
John Caldwell who died in Hay, NSW in 1876 certainly looks like your John.
Regards Dale
-
Hi Dale, Yes I have a photograph for Jane's headstone from Carol Judkin confirming she was the wife of Thomas Caldwell. She died at Kingower 1 Apr 1861 aged 39.
I believe her daughter Jane died 1868 in Victoria, father; Thomas and mother Jane but the name is Gernsey probably her married name but I cant find any reference to the marriage. The reg. no. is 9730, any information on that would be much appreciated.
John died at Hay NSW on 18 Jun 1876. He was a stock rider on the Cowl Cowl station, Hillston, Nsw his NOK was his father Thomas so I don't think he married.
Father Thomas was a farmer at Barrakee when he died.
I also have Mary Sheedy's details but you probably know them.
Regards
Bill
-
Hi Bill,
Some breakthroughs there for sure. If you have anything on Mary Sheedy I would be interested.
I have some more on Jane Caldwell, daughter of Thomas and Jane.
In 1863 she married Denis Joseph Egan (b c1839 County Cork- died 1869 Victoria) in Victoria. She uses the name Mary Jane for this marriage and for the birth of children, who are
Bridget born 1864, Kingower - married Terence O'Toole in 1885
Ellen Jane born 1869, Inglewood
Denis Egan died in 1869 and Jane remarried 1873 in Victoria as Jane Egan to Thomas Guernsey (various spellings)
Jane and Thomas had the following children
Ada Bertha b 1874, Sandhurst
Martha Alice b 1876, Sandhurst , died in 1877 aged 10 mths
Jane Elizabeth b 1877 Sandhurst
Unnamed Male b 1878, Sandhurst, died 1878 aged 1 day - this is the Guernsey death with registration number 9730
Alice b 1880, Sandhurst
Jane and Thomas then disappear from Victoria
Regards Dale
-
Hi Dale, Many thanks for the Jane history I think that about covers everything. Regarding the Sheedy history if you google the following you will get their story :- "genform.genealogy.com/sheedy/messages/26.htlm" you will see that Mary's sister Kate married a Michael O'Shaughnessy, a contractor of that name was an executor of Thomas Caldwell's Will, also in that will Thomas left £50 to each of his daughters Margaret and Mary so they had a fifth child Margaret. Any problems with googling let me know. Regards Bill
-
Hi Dale,I have an update on Jane Egan/Guernsey. On the 25th Feb 1880 at Sandhurst assizes she was found guilty of bigamy, Denis Egan deserted her and she married Guernsey but after a while she informed Guernsey that she had been married before and that she wished to leave him as she had heard that Egan was still alive. They separated but he still visited her but quarrelled often and he broke her collarbone and fractured her shoulder blade, because of a technicality he was not charged. Jane was sentenced on 27th Feb to imprisonment but only until the court rose as it was considered she had suffered enough.
Websites "nla.gov.au/nla.news-article5975192" and article5976210
A Thomas Guernsey was charged with theft on 25 May 1887 ref, NSW Police Gazette p 158
A '' '' resided in Sydney 1895 onwards
A '' '' died 29 Apr 1926 at Gunneday NSW
It could be the same Thomas?
Regards Bill

Thats a good find Bill

I wonder ....
There's a 6 May 1898 death registered as a Marine death .... NSW BDM online index has
Edwin POWELL, unknown given names for either of his parents, #7837 .... perhaps the informant mis-heard Edwin's surname? Perhaps this chap was buried at sea ?

There are no rules at all about humour in the forum. Appreciated by some I'm sure, but irritating for others perhaps, especially if not aware your facetious intent.

Hi.
Re Denis Egan and Mary Jane Caldwell
I have the death cert of Millie North Nee Egan listing the above as parents and birth place Inglewood Vic. C1865
i can not find any record of birth.

Thanks for that info CarrollK
I can find only two births registered to Denis and Jane
Bridget in 1864 at Kingower
Ellen Jane in 1869 in Inglewood
Millie would fit nicely between these 2.
Can you give any more details from the death certificate eg Husbands name and children
Thanks again, Dale

Hi Dale,
I am hoping that you are still helping out with Inglewood Cemetery look-ups.
Interested in Richard Bagnell Webb died Kew Lunatic Asylum 1896 - he may have been returned to Inglewood.
Also Elizabeth Alice Webb, Richard's wife, she would have died after 1918 (according to newspaper her brother Thomas Manthorpe died at her residence in Inglewood in 1918).
Kind regards,
Mark
-
Hi Mark,
The book has the following
R B Webb 28 Apr 1876 - this is obviously incorrect as he died in 1896. no other information is given
Mrs R B Webb 31 Oct 1931 Church of England 1343 - reopened grave of son
Neither grave appears to have a headstone - I hope this helps
Dale
-
Thanks Dale,
I have since found out that Richard Bagnell Webb was buried in the Melbourne General Cemetery in Jul 1896. But the re-opened grave of son is interesting. Richard Bagnall Webb and Elizabeth Annie Webb had only one child, a son, Charles William Richard Webb (the name in the VIC birth and death index differs) in 1892 who died 4 Sep 1905. Would this be the same grave?
Regards,
Mark
-
Yes Mark, I believe so.
He was buried in the Church of England section which matches Elizabeth's burial
Dale
-
Dale,
Thanks very much for you help.

Hello Dale, I have a death certificate for my great grand father - the certificate says Cousin Marchesi (real name Cosimo Marchesi) - it says he was buried at Inglewood Cemetery on June 12th 1942. Would you mind checking if it is on your cemetery records please. Kind regards Gayle
-
Hi Gayle,
The Inglewood Records I have from Arthur Treble's book have your great grandfather's name as Courius Marcheari . The date is 11 Jun 1942 (could be date of death). He is buried in the Roman Catholic section (no headstone) . His burial number is 1590.
Regards
-
Thank you for your prompt reply Dale, appreciate it.
Probably not worth the 4 hour drive if no headstone, I imagine it would be difficult to locate the grave.
Kind Regards - Gayle
-
Hi Gayle,
Yes, you would need to contact the Cemetery Trust - who may be able to give you a location for the grave.
Dale

There are a number of sites that have photographs only of headstones that have survived.
Nothing listed on this one. Photos taken in 2016

Hello Dale, hoping you may still be offering look-ups.
I have a death certificate and inquest record for my GGG Grandfather James SPENCER - it says he was buried at "Inglewood" 20 Apr 1864. Would you mind to check if it is on your cemetery records please, and if there is any other information noted. After his death his partner Mary BURKE deserted their 5 children and I am trying to piece the family back together.
If there is any info on the burial it would be greatly appreciated - no matter how small.
Kind regards, Donna
-
Hi Donna, Unfortunately the booklet does not record the burial of James Spencer.
The comment in the preface is such: 1864 No dates and names for first part of 1864. (part of page missing).
The booklet is a transcription of the original burial records, and as such we can assume that the location of James' burial is lost forever.
There are 4 Spencers buried at Inglewood - I don't know if they are connected.
Ethel Dinah 1955
Fanny 1934
Frank 1958 (buried with Ethel)
James 1902
Regards Dale
-
Thanks so much for confirming Dale, I suppose I'll need to take it on face value that he was most likely on the part of the 1864 missing page, I will take the inquest and death certificate as confirmation and informant Wm Farmer Undertaker, that would have been a burial at the cemetery. Unfortunately the other Spencer names are not related, but thank you for for noting those.
Many thanks, Donna
-
Hello Dale,
Hope you had a Merry Christmas.
Would you please look up the burial of Mary Eleanor Esse, died 14 May 1937. I have her death certificate but the date of burial is unable to be read.
Many thanks.
Regards,
Di Maloney
-
Hi Di,
Mary buried the next day 15 May 1937 RC section burial number 1472, doesn't look like there is a headstone.
Regards Dale
-
Hi Dale,
Thank you so much. Grateful for your help.
I should have asked earlier, is there any chance of other ESSE family members buried there?
Cheers,
Di
-
Hi Di,
Yes James Herbert Esse buried 11 May 1940 aged 54 years in RC section, no headstone. Looks like a different grave to Mary.
Regards Dale
-
Thank you so much Dale,
That completes information for the family from that area. Now onto another branch.
Happy New Year.

Hi Dale,
I saw your chat thread about doing burial lookups for Inglewood cemetery.
Could you please tell me if the following couple is buried at Inglewood cemetery:
William Pinnock died 1882 at Inglewood
Hannah Pinnock died 1880
The surname variation maybe Pennock or Rennock.
Any help in their location would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance
Fiona
-
Hi Dale again
Could you please tell me if William Arnold who died around 8 June 1906 is buried at the Inglewood cemetery?
Thank you in advance,
Fiona (and Roger)
-
Hi Fiona and Roger,
William Arnold buried at Inglewood in an unknown location in the Hospital Ground - this is the equivalent of a paupers grave. Date of burial given as 7-6-1906.
William Pennock buried 10-5-1882, he is in the Anglican section grave 80 no headstone. I don't know if this grave is locatable - not by my information anyway.
No other Pennocks, Pinnocks or Rennocks in Inglewood - I don't believe Hannah is with William as his grave would have a reopen on it when William was buried.
Regards Dale
-
Hi Dale,
Thank you for responding so quickly and providing the information.
It is greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Hi Dale
Just a query.
Is the burial ground for Inglewood hospital separate from the Inglewood cemetery?
Regards
Fiona
-
No, it is still part of the main cemetery.
I have attached a map.

Hi Dale
Thank you for responding so quickly and loading up the cemetery map showing the hospital burial area.
Greatly appreciated.
Thank you

-
Hi Dale,
I'm looking the burial location of a couple of children to see if they are buried at Inglewood.
William Arnold died around 13 May 1876 - about 10 months old.
John Arnold born 1876 - possibly died before 1890.
Any light you can shed on their location would be greatly appreciated.
thank you
Fiona
-
William Arnold died 1876 is buried in an unknown location at Inglewood Cemetery.
He is recorded as the Infant of William, buried 16-5-1876.
The only John Arnold buried at Inglewood is John Charles in 1947 - son of William John Arnold and Sarah Cundall.
Regards Dale
-
HI Dale

Hello Dale, I am hoping you might be able to look up Mary Ann Osbourne in your Inglewood Cemetery records, died 19th January 1919 buried at Inglewood Cemetery on the 20th. Many thanks.

Hi ORRLEA,
The year I have is 1909. This is confirmed by VIC BDMs.
Death 1909 #1899 Mary Ann Osbourne @Inglewood, Father George Marchum, mother Ann Bevan.
She was buried in Wesleyan Section grave 712, no headstone.
