Title: Robert Foot
Post by: mark foot on Friday 21 September 12 09:59 BST (UK)
Robert (b 5/5/1902 Up Cerne) killed himself in 1954 at his home near Minternre Magna. I wonder if anyone can give me the precise date and the date of his burial? I believe he was buried a tUp Cerne and confirmation would also be useful. I have seperately posted a question seeking information about how to obtain an inquest report.
Thanks Mark

Dear Jan,
I have been trying to get an inquest report without any joy as between June 1954 and Jan 1955 there is no record apparently. I am doubtful if there is anything you could add but if you can tell the actual date of his death or anything else that in your opinion could help then that would be most helpful.

Kind regards

Mark

If you obtain the Death Cert, you will get the exact date of Death and see if the Coroner was involved.....

You might be able to find a local newspaper article.

many thanks. As he was found hanged I would have thought the under all circumstances an inquest would have taken place but the certificate will show. Thanks Mark

I imagine an inquest occurred but the coroner's records may not have been kept, however a local newspaper article reporting on the inquest would give you the same details. There might also be a report of his death.

I appear to have lost my research and wonder if there are records to hand to say where Robert marred Mabel in1923? Where did Mabel come from and the name of her parents and siblings would be very helpful. She married Robert W Scutt later and died in 1968. Is there a clue where she was living?
Many thanks  Mark

Baptism 2 Sep 1901 Puncknowle, Dorset - parents Frederick and Clara

She is actually recorded in the 1901 census as Mable in Puncknowle as 5 months old- father Frederick is a petty officer age 40.

Siblings in 1901 Frederick, Fanny, Cecil, Lily and James.

Robert and Mabel are easy to find in the 1939 register - this will provide her precise date of birth.

William

I wonder if there is a means of finding Robert's date of death without going to the expense of getting a death certificate. He was buried on the 2nd Dec 1954 and although he killed himself it appears inquests took place shortly afterwards in the past.
Unfortunately his inquest report is not available anymore and perhaps if I can track down a newspaper that covered the inquest it will provide some additional info.
Thanks Mark

Any thoughts please re Mabel's birth. 1901 census that took place in March and states she was 5 months old whilst her wedding cert and birth records suggest she was born in 1901. Would this appear to be about her slightly reducing her age?

Sorry I missed the comment about the 1939 register. I will explore but I don't think I currently have access.

Quote
Baptism 2 Sep 1901 Puncknowle, Dorset - parents Frederick and Clara

Marriage Dec 1894 Bridport
Alfred Coombs
Clara Laver
Frederick Smith
Beatrice Mary Thorne

So the birth for Mabel Smith should have mothers name Laver

Per GRO birth index she is registered Bridport Dec 1900

Local newspapers are held at Dorset History Centre in Dorchester if you can get there; otherwise ordering a search might be more expensive than buying a copy of the death certificate.

I understood the Robert and Mabel divorced, but I can not find any proof. I wonder if anyone can help. Other info I am searching is the date and place of Mabel's 2nd marriage to Robert Scutt, the date of Robert Foot's death in 1954 (buried 2.12.1954). Also the date of Mabel Smith's birth. I understand the 1939 Register would give but I currently don't have acceess.

Any help would be extremely helpful.

Many thanks, Mark

The marriage is Weymouth Mar 1958 6a 1743

As found previous birth for Mabel is Bridport Dec 1900 5a 322

Sorry can't see the exact info you require without certificates, same with the exact death for Robert.

The death cert confirms that an inquest took place and was officiated by the West Dorset Coroner on the 30th Nov 1954. I wonder if anyone could advise me where to look for a newspaper report and any titles? Many thanks, Mark
