George MONK b. 1804 Maughold was the father of Mary Ann b. 1834 Ramsey. Mary Ann's mother was Ellen/Elinor Kenyon. Ellen/Elinor and George never married and Mary Ann was raised (apparently) by her maternal grandparents (Martin and Margaret Kenyon).
George Monk's death in 1872 indicates he died a BACHELOR; as well, the 1861 Ramsey census states he was unmarried.
Ellen/Elinor Kenyon was ch. 1810 at Ballaugh and after that she disappears. I would very much like to obtain Ellen/Elinor Kenyon's place and date of death and/or particulars of any marriage she might have had after the birth of her daughter.
Any connection to the Monks or Kenyons from the IOM will be appreciated.

Hi Donna: Thanks for your help. You've given me something more to look into. I do wish, however, that Ellen had been 40 years old instead of 20..... BUT, worth having a second look.
Regards,
Pat

I think you'll find that Ellen's age was 29 at the '51 census
-
Thank you Brian - this means then that this Ellen's dob is 1822 and is therefore not 'mine'.

I thought an update might be appreciated. I have discovered that Mary Ann Monk was ILLEGITIMATE; her baptism record clearly indicates this, therefore George Monk and Ellen Kenyon/Kennion never married. Ellen eventually married a John Garrett about the year 1840, when their first child was born.
I wanted to thank all who assisted me at my first enquiry - much appreciated.

yes , Thanks for posting these links, I already found one will I wanted so thats been great. I noticed some years for wills you can't search, hope those are available soon too. thanks so much to Blue. :)

You're welcome. The link at the bottom is for all my Manx links if anyone is wondering where to view the wills. The wills are great and hopefully the missing years will be added in the future.
There are already will indexes online:-
http://www.iomfhs.im/resources/wills/Index_A-Z.html
and some transcriptions. If you want to view the original image note the registry (ie Archdeaconry or Episcopal), the reference and the film number so you can find the right camera icon on the will links.
After that is the hard work of locating the will. The parish and the reference can help so for example you might need to look for the parish of Malew and a will numbered 20 at the top of the images:-
