I found the remnants of a photograph album at a carboot sale and bought them. There are a few of people, some with their names on the back. I think I will post them here and see if anyone claims them.
Here is number 1; Miss E. Ray.

What a lovely picture and I do like the "little" pocket watch wrapped up in the wrist holder! Just came on to say well done in preserving this bit of history!! I do hope the family find it!

According to the 1901 census Rose Rumsey aged 1 month is the daughter of David and Julia Rumsey. David was a general grocer from Malden, Essex and Julia was born in Canterbury. Rose was born in Chatham and in 1901 the family are living at 204, New Road, Chatham.

Rose Rumsey daughter of David Rumsey and Julia Rye born 12 April 1901 Kent died 1946 Chatham Kent appears in a public tree on A*******. The tree also shows several members of the Payne family.

Looking at the tree in question probably Rose's brother Harry born 1896 Chatham, Kent

Number 10;- On the back it say's; Cpl, Griffin. 10-3-19

The last one was on the Maud bridge, Baghdad.

Certainly need to contact the owner of the tree on Ancestry.

The album seems to have belonged to L/Cpl. J.W.Ray.

E Ray is Eliza Ann Ray daughter of Annie Martha. Born 1881 she was living at Gilbridge Chiddingstone in 1911. That is about 4 miles from Leigh.
According to the 1891 she had 3 younger sisters Ellen 1886, Mary A 1888 and Amy 1890.
Amy RAY married William PAYNE 1914 in Tonbridge, Kent

I wonder what the connection is with the Rumsey family? There is a marriage of a Harry RC Rumsey to a Violet K Payne in Sept quarter 1934 in Shoreditch Middlesex, but that seems a bit late.

last year i did a similar thing and with the help on here reunited the pics with an American researcher, who was very pleased to have pics of his family.

I have had a look at the an*****y tree mention, via Mundia. It looks like a dead end branch for that tree, not the main line. :(

Number 18;- On the back of the photo it say's Jack. 15-3-19 It also say's L/Cpl,Ray. Baghdad. at the foot of the photo but it is not showing on this scan.

Photo may not have anything to say but I'll bet the guy at the back, wielding the spoon, is waiting for the photo-shoot to finish. His grub must be getting cold. ;)

Perhaps entertainment for injured personnel. Scouts with song sheets, those in Pierrot costume.
The chap with the monocle could be military doctor and there are certainly injuries apparent.
The chap sitting at the front seems to be missing part of lower leg.

Could be wrong but I think the RAY family are:
John Will RAY and Mary A S RAY with family in Sevenoaks 1901.
Son John William James RAY-is, I think,on the WW1 Service Records as just John RAY with an Edenbridge address. The age is out but most other things fit.
I believe it was his sister Amy who married William PAYNE.
The other Amy RAY was born Amy Emily Ray and seems to marry Horace Wickenden in Sevenoaks.

No I don't either but think she and the younger woman on end are sisters and are together in #12 as well ... pretty obvious as wearing same outfits too, minus/plus hats ... male companion/husband looks slightly different in both but probably just angle and with/without hat.

On the back of #15 it say's; Mr. Mrs. & Miss Sandford June 3rd 1917. And on another copy of the same photo it say's; "That is Maud Freds sister with us".

Some of the names I can't make out and the layout of the writing makes it a little dificult to work out who is who on those two photo's mare. [12&15]

I'm probably confusing everyone including self here ... so for #12, not sure I understand the bracketing but I'll put the way I interpret it ...
In front we have the Sandfords ..Is the name of Mrs Fred Sandford, seated, not legible? or a questionmark?
and at the back we have Maud Sandford/Fred's sister, Sybil Earl the housemaid and Ada ? the parlourmaid

Couldn't make out the name of Mrs Sandford. Nor can I make out the surname of Ada.
The bracketing is has it appears on the photo, something not correct, 3 brackets?.
But I think it is as you have it.

... I did do a quick look for a marriage on freeBMD but didn't spot anything.

Very faint image but does compare well with #8

Harriet Selina RAY (b 1892)-daughter of John William RAY marries Richard Alfred Astley(that's how it's transcribed on A* but it looks like it starts with an H to me) SANDFORD age 31 Private A.S.C. (M.T.?) father Richard Sandford occ:tin smith.
3 Jun 1917 at Brondesbury Christ Church (Middlesex) witnesses Sibyl EARL and Maud SANDFORD.

Just noticed the date of the marriage vs the date of the photo.
So it's their wedding day!
Just to note-he seems to have been born as Alfred Richard H SANDFORD.

That's brilliant Maureen ... wedding day so perhaps hence the reference to Mr and Mrs Sandford
Wonder if there are two families of Rays ... with the John v James :-\ and now Harriet family of John William Ray
not amongst the names already mentioned but may well be more family or cousins

I think groom got a little mixed in generations..but same family.
In 1881 James and Annie M RAY have a 13 yr old son John. He's the one who goes on to have the family we're looking at. His family with wife Mary A are:

Generations are certainly easy to confuse though, especially when names get repetitive.

Well, I've done the usual and checked out the address on Google Earth, not bad, in fact if that was their house they must have had a bit if money. It's pretty big.

I would like to congratulate every member who posted on this thread, for their great detective work,it's really getting exciting and I cant wait to see the next post being posted,it's reading like a best seller mystery novel,and R/C should be proud to say what a great bunch of members it has,I applaud you all.and Wiggy I believe is right in saying it's at some military hospital,as in the back row some of the men are wearing stripes I know one is a lance /corporal and another a full /corporal.I bet any police force in the world would love to have you all to work on their real old "Cold Case Files" :D

The large group image which includes the scouts is indeed of men wearing hospital blues and I can see at least one who was serving with what looks like the The Prince of Wale's Own (West Yorkshire Regiment) when the image was taken. Also amongst the group are two lance corporal's, one corporal and one sergeant. There is one officer (in uniform) but his rank is not visable. Nice find by the way.

I've always been tempted to take home the ones I come across and see if I can find living relatives! There are boxes full of them in Snooper's Paradise in Brighton!

One of the chaps has a home made fiddle , was usually a cigar box. Could this suggest that he was in exile ? i.e. A musician without his usual instrument. Are the scouts in normal English uniform ? From what I can recall, my hat wasn't quite like that
