I am hoping someone may be able to help me go back a bit further with the WISEMANs from the Urswick/Ulverstone area.
I have a John WISEMAN (b 1764/5) who married a Jane Denison in 1790.
They had from what I can tell 8 children: William, Isaac, Thomas, Mary, Edmund, Margaret, Joseph and George
I would like to try and find some more information about Johns parents and family
Any help would be most gratefully appreciated.
Thanks, Hannah

Thank you. I had a look on lan-opc, and I did find the John and Jane WISEMAN that I currently have. So at least that bit is right. But from what I could see (or couldn't!), I still cant determine Johns parents there.
The search continues.....

Not refuting your find ,but it is a fair distance to Colton, other side of Ulverston,
There is a Joseph Wiseman married to Ann Jackson,in Dalton, but where he goes
his daughter Ann is baptised December 1770.
-
Yes I agree there's about 11 miles between Colton and Dalton and about 9 miles between Urswick and Colton , just thought I would add it being the right timeframe.

Yes we live in a very rural area here Claire ,
and I do tend to draw a big triangle,
between Cartmel ,Coniston and back to Dalton, when I am looking around
Noted Ann Dennisons brother is a mariner,or assumed brother on her marriage as a witness,
-
John is buried in Urswick the headstones, are very old in there ,and extremely hard to read, but I will have a look around the next time I am in there,
-
There is a interesting marriage in Urswick
Thomas Wiseman,husbandman and Jane Wilkinson,spinster
both of Stenton,,(Stainton)
10th September 1750
-
Right I have to go to work so I will leave you with these two as possible family connections to research
Urswick

and Mary Wiseman spinster

I haven't been able to track this one down. May i ask where you come across it? It kind of fits in with some new information I have been following thanks to some info you have mentioned previous.
I have branched out a little further and found-
Sarah and Deborah (twins?) 1758- dau of John wiseman
Isabella- dau of john wiseman 1760
Anne- dau of John wiseman 1770
All of Dalton in Furness. No mother listed.
And also found-
Isaac and John (twins?) s. of john wiseman 1762 from Colton. Again no mother listed.
Any ideas on how to try and track down a mother, and how to confirm which John? What/where are the best places to search.
All ideas/ recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Thanks again.

Lancashire parish records,
Click on Dalton in Furness,
click on baptisms under W and you will see all the Wiseman baptisms for our town,
Now the distance between,Dalton , Stainton and Urswick is nothing,I would do this walk on a Summers evening as a child, today I am a bit lazier and would go in the car,

thank you for your help Radcliff. It is hard to really get a grasp on how close all these parishes are. I am extending out my search area a bit further, though i'm thinking it is confusing me all the more.
I had a look on google maps at Urswick area, and it is truly lovely and historical looking. Being here in Aus, we just don't have those lovely old buildings ( not where we live anyway). If you ever do go to have a look at the cemetery for john wiseman, I would be immensely grateful.
However the search continues....

This may be a silly question, but I googled it and cant find the answer. What does the (X) mean in the record shown below?

Edward Wiseman - (X) , Bachelor, Parkhouse
Mary Winder - Spinster, Parkhouse
Witness: John Boulton; John Stable
Married by Banns by: J T Kirkbank, M.A. Vicar
Register: Marriages 1813 - 1837 from Bishop's Transcripts, Page 32, Entry 94
