Title: Boyle
Post by: Suzy W on Thursday 08 August 13 23:26 BST (UK)
O.K another missing family.
Charles Henry Boyle and his wife Georgina born abt 1894 Pigeon Bay.
One daughter Reta is showing up for her death date 1982, but no sign of Charles and Georgina. Could they of been buried at Pigeon Bay?

Hi Suzy

The lady Reta Georgina BOYLE who died in 1982, appears to have been married (BOYLE being her married name).
[Have found her on electoral rolls with husband, South Canterbury area, plus a corresponding marriage. ]     ???

Incidentally, 1928 is the last listing for them.
[All Georgina BOYLE's appearing on later rolls are married to other men.  No further sign of a Charles Henry BOYLE.   No (apparent) remarriage for a Georgina BOYLE. ]

Hello...

There's a tree on Mundia for a Charles Henry BOYLE b.1885 in Oamaru.

He married a Georgina LYALL.

The tree says they had three sons. One born in 1922 is still with us. Worth contacting the treeowner?

No mention of a Reta.

Hi Suzy

I think the following is likely to be Georgina.   Seems she resided in Auckland from at least 1935 (indexed as "Georgia" on 1935 e/roll).

1946 - Auckland - Arch Hill

BOYLE - Georgina - married - 10 Richmond Road

BOYLE - Eric Campbell - polisher - at same address

Of interest, is that she is listed as "married" at all the various addresses she's at in Auckland - and yet there is no husband sharing an address (nor a Charles Henry BOYLE in those localities).

Of significance (perhaps) is that in 1954 - Georgina BOYLE , tailoress, is at 211 New North Road (Eden electorate).   And at same address is Gordon Hugh BOYLE, Tailor (and his wife Mary).    [Gordon Hugh is her brother-in-law  ... is that correct ? ]

In 1972 Georgina is in the Pakuranga electorate - this time described as "widow".

As for Charles Henry BOYLE, the following may be him in Australia ?

1937 - NSW - East Sydney - Surry Hills

BOYLE - Charles Henry - 111 Fitzroy Street - Tailor

Can't see him under that occupation in following rolls, but there is this "possible" in 1949 :

1949 - NSW - Blaxland - Lidcombe South

BOYLE - Charles Henry - Lidcombe State Hospital* - Tailor

[*  Note:  Glancing over the other names on the 2-page image for this 1949 roll, I noticed quite a lot of people had the address "Lidcombe State Hospital".  Mostly they also had their occupations stated.   Possibly they may have been employees of the Hospital, rather than inmates/patients ? ]

Hi Suzy

Yes I saw that death on the NSW index ... and would agree (as per the post on your AUS thread), that the Charles BOYLE aged 64 - reg'd. at Parramatta, seems most likely.   ;)

I would mark this as completed, but for some reason on the NZ board it does not allow me to do this.

Thanks again Lucy.  Certainly helped clear up Georgina for me.

Following on from Suzi's inquiry in Charles Henry and Georgina. They had 3 sons possibly while living in Shannon. It appears Charles disappeared in 1929 most likely due to both his parent passing within 5 days of each other. There was a notice posted in NSW Police Gazette looking for him and Auckland was his last known address. So he appears to have remained in Sydney and Georgina was left with the 3 boys.
She was living in Auckland and died in 1980
All the boys have now passed but there may be a few descendants. Georgina had 3 brothers and 4 sisters. She was the last to go.
Cheers
Rick  related through Gertrude Boyle - James Boyle's granddaughter - Charles father Hugh is James  brother

Hello

Georgina came from a very large family, she is one of ten sisters and four brothers...so hopefully we have the right Georgina?
Georgina is the daughter of James Milne Lyall and Mary White. Born 1894 in Pigeon Bay
I have her marrying Charles Henry Boyle in 1920, and the couple had three son's and one daughter.
Does this tie in with what you have at all?

Hi Sorry for delay but I can confirm it is the same Georgina. I did not know about the daughter but will do some further research. I was given the following information Georgina Lyall (Charlie boyle's wife) was the granddaughter of Pirauau (Sarah) wife of Captain Thomas White - an American Whaler, who settled at Pigeon Bay, Akaroa. They were married by Bishop Pompallier in 1846.
'Piraurau had a son previously to John Miller who lived at Purakanui Pa. (Purakanui was where my Foote ancestors started their lives in NZ in the 1860's-1880, and we all visited the Homstead in Jan. 2014 as part of the Foote Reunion ) The Millers married several McLaughlans in the district and were closely involved with the Foote Family of my father.' (these notes from my previous genealogy programme)

Oh thanks for that info on the Millars, My 4th cousin comes from the Lyall, White and Piraurau families, I wonder if she knew about a child being born to John Millar?
It is said Thomas White was the first white man to marry into a Maori family in NZ, not too certain if this is correct?

Hi Suzy,
I would be very interested in gaining the information about Piraurau and John Millar. My husband whakapapas back to Piraurau and Tom white. I have information about them after the settlement in pigeon bay as well as a couple of photographs if anyone is interested.

My cousin descends from Thomas White and Sarah Piraurau, her gg grandfather James Milne Lyall (brother of my gg grandfather) married their daughter Mary Piraurau.  she lives in Melbourne.
You might already be in contact with her D.W.  If not I can pass on your info.
