Hi, I'm trying to find an early victorian time image/photo of the Victoria (Assembly) Rooms, Roft Street, Oswestry.
My 1st cousin (twice removed) was born there in 1865 (a year after it was built) and I'm trying to get a photo of the building taken as near to that time as possible, to send to her Gt Grand daughter.
I have a photo from the 1950's and one from 2005 but it would be nice to send her a photo of how it looked when her Gt Gran was born or in years closer to that date than I have got.
I have looked on the net but cannot seem to find such an older view.
Any help or tips would be appreciated.
Thanks
Barbara

I guess this is earlier than the 1950's....

Hi Paul
The full link that you gave doesn't come out fully - maybe it's too long . Here's a shrunk link to it:

or - you can copy the whole link out and paste it into address bar!
It takes me back to my youth :D

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the link you posted. Unfortunately, I copied & pasted into my browser but it wouldn't open I'm afraid.
I appreciate your time/help anyway..
Hi tofgem,Thanks also for your link,I managed to open it but couldn't seem to enlarge it to a better size.
Hi Gadget, thanks very much for the shrunken link to Paul's link. I was able to open it up and enlarge the view to a reasonable size before it started pixelating too much.
I'm dating it as c1900 and hoping that's near the mark.
Looking back through the photos I now have of the Building through the time line,it hasn't changed in appearance much over the years but at some stage in the fairly recent past, the little cottages on the left of the c1900 photo have now disappeared and been replaced by a Car Business (doesn't look quite as picturesque somehow).
I paid my old hometown a visit recently and saw that the building is being turned into Luxury Flats so that although the outside appearance remains the same, the entrance has now been revamped accordingly. So I was able to take a photo of The Victoria Rooms - 2013 to add to the collection.. ;D
Thank you all again for your input & help.
Cheers
Barbara.

Oswestry Archives / Museum have a collection of local postcards, which I presume are catalogued. That would be the best bet.
This one:

looks to be about 1900 to me.

Hi David64,
I've had hardly any time to go on Rootschat in recent weeksso I'm a little late in thanking you for the 2 images of Victoria Rooms that you attached for me.
Although I do have both the images, I especially appreciate the c1900 image, which is a really good black & white version.I can clearly make out the sheep being herded along the street.
Gosh, those were the days !!!!
Much appreciated David.
Cheers
Barbara.

I've just come across hundreds of Victoria Rooms (Oswestry) musical & theatre production brochures and leaflets from my great grandfather Wallace Ollerhead who appears to have been a prolific producer....and I never knew ! Ranges from 1900 to around 1917. No pictures though, all drawings and text.
