Or maybe Kers Farm

Run by late Robert and Sally Todd back in 1920/30/40's maybe ?

Anyone any ideas?

Welcome to rootschat Kenny. I was just browsing rootschat and noticed your post.
I have asked a moderator to split your question from this old topic, otherwise it may get lost with all the similar requests on this old thread. Having a new thread to yourself should get you plenty of responses.
Good luck.

Are you also looking for a place called Kers Farm? Or is Kers Farm and alternative name to Lochbrow Farm?
If different what kind of time frame is the reference to Kers Farm? Also, where was this farm name mentioned? (ie baptism, marriage record etc)

These farms are all part of Annandale Estates.  Contact the estate office at St Annes.

Hi Kenny

From memory Lochbrow as mentioned was owned by the Earl of Annandale as part of his estate. It was tenanted by the Halliday family for maybe over 100 years beginning late in the 1600's, maybe earlier but records are a little scarce before this.

If this is of interest I could check my records for more info.

Hi,  dont know if you are still looking for information on these farms but if you do my dad has worked at Lochbrow for over 50 years and is still there today and previous to that he started work at Kerse when he left school.  Lochbrow is not part of Annandale Estates as previously mentioned , its now Crown Estate property.  Happy to share any info you might need.

Hi, the 1915 and 1920 valuation rolls available on the Scotland's people site may provide some more recent info than the 1911 census - it will show proprietor/tenant/occupier/inhabitant occupier. The 1896-97 valuation roll showed both Lochbrow and Kerse as being owned by John James Hope Johnstone at that time (i.e. Annandale); tenants were Barr and McGregor respectively.

...and I should extend credit to Graham & Emma Maxwell for making their images of the Dumfriesshire Valuation Roll (1896-97) available on their website; http://www.maxwellancestry.com/ancestry/resources/dumfriesshirevaluationroll.htm (http://www.maxwellancestry.com/ancestry/resources/dumfriesshirevaluationroll.htm)

Another useful resource in this type of situation is the 1881 Scottish census placename index on Origins.net, which can be searched on part of a name thus dealing in part at least with spelling variations.

For example, Lochbrow could be searched using "Lochb" or "hbrow".
