Title: Roaskey - Kilconduff Parish, Swinford
Post by: KatePA on Wednesday 22 January 14 16:17 GMT (UK)
Found baptismal record for my g-grandmother, Honor Convey, on Mayo Ancestors. It lists her address as "Roaskey" in Kilconduff parish, Swinford. The only thing close to Roaskey that I can find is Rooskey. Does anyone know if they are the same place? Thanks!

Another spelling variation "Roosky".  Could this be it?

Hi,
My first input on this site was related to Doocastle 2 days ago.  In the 1901-1911 census, my GGF, Bartly Mannion is listed as "union Swinford, D.E.D. Doocastle,  Townland Cloonakilliny, Barony Costello, Parish Kilturra (currently Bunnanadden?) Subdistr Rooskey.   For a small place, it sounds like a lot overlap.  Where would records be today, re birth, wedding baptisms of my GGP's kids (incl my GF Thomas Mannion)  What parish address would I write to?

Regards, Carol

This link gives an address for Bunninadden parish (RC).

www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/     pay site but contains a lot of free info, including what parish records are available and where to access them

census link for reference

Townland seems to be recorded as Cloonakillina on Griffiths Valuation.

I have no local knowledge of the area but hope some of this helps. :)

Thanks Conahy,   That is my GGF...in fact, the grand kids listed are my GF's kids from his first marriage, sent home after the 1st wife died.  They ret to NYC by the 1920 US census since he remarried.  I'll check the archives site.  I'll be in Dublin In August; I'll check out the Nat'l Library on Kildare St.  I get to Dublin frequently, as my spouse is from there.  We married in Bray in the 1970's!  I've been out West, climbed Crough Patrick, didn't realize then how close I was to my roots!  A lot of this great info like the census wasn't up yet.
Regards Carol

https://familysearch.org/wiki/en/Kilturra_Civil_Parish,_County_Mayo_Genealogy Want to know if anyone knows of the girl on line 3 Bridget Mannion.
I understand that the story is she became a nun when her parents died and all her brothers moved to the USA
By the look of the 1911 census, she took care of my grandfathers kids, who had returned to Eire from NYC.  Her uncle might be the John Mannion on the Rock of Doocastle.
I looked up Sisters of Mary and any other options when I was in Dublin.  She might have been in Tuam but I just don't know.  I know of all the brothers that came here
