Trying to find details for a John Dodgson. The only confirmed detail I have is that he married Mary Bailey/Bayley/Baylie (1802-1875) in Kirkby Lonsdale on 28 February 1829.
Mary Dodgson is living with a Thomas Dodgson (aged approx 90) in Casterton at the 1841 census (John's father?) then she's a widow at 1851 census.
I have been unable to confirm a birth date, death date or anything else!
If anyone has access to the marriage register, or other information, it would be very much appreciated.

a son John christened at Casterton 12 feb 1837

Thanks Fellsman. This certainly looks like it could be my John and Mary Dodgson. Little John didn't appear in any census, so if he is one of theirs, it seems he didn't survive for long.

This would make John 39 when he married in 1829 but he may have been married before.
There is a Death Reg for a John Dodgson, June 1839, Kendal, 25 324

Thanks Trish. That could be my John. John and Mary named one of their daughters Elizabeth (Betty) so that might fit.
What I'd really like is a copy of John and Mary's marriage registration!
Thanks.

There will only be a Parish Record of a 1829 Marriage as it was before civil reg of Marriages began Sept 1837.
On these civil regs of Marriages Fathers names/occps's were noted.
The Parish record will only have Witnesses who may or may not be related to the people Marrying.

Thanks Trish. Looks like I may never find out any more about John Dodgson. He's not critical, but I'd hoped he might lead me to some others in his family to explain some later developments including a move away from Casterton/Kirkby Lonsdale in the late 1870s.
Cheers

This is what I could glean with a quick look through the online newspapers that I could find. His death appears, as well as the death of his son, John. However, his marriage did not appear in the search results for 1828-1830. I just included any mentions of a Dodgson in Casterton. Perhaps you'll find his father (Rowland, maybe)? Hope this helps.

Hi Telinlethaed
Thanks so much for your detailed reply. My apologies for the delay in responding. Unfortunately, though I've found lots of info about the Dodgsons of Casterton/Kirkby Lonsdale, I haven't been able to make the connections.
I think for example my Thomas Dodgson (father of John) is a brother of William Dodgson (1775-1865) but I've been unable to make the connection or find any details of either of their parents.
I'll have to continue to trawl for more details.
Regards

Thomas DODGSON, a yeoman of Casterton, left a will, probate dated 14 Apr 1842. Copies are available from the Lancashire Record Office in Preston ( http://archivecat.lancashire.gov.uk/CalmView/Record.aspx?src=CalmView.Catalog&id=W%2fRW%2fL%2fR644%2f112&pos=52 (http://archivecat.lancashire.gov.uk/CalmView/Record.aspx?src=CalmView.Catalog&id=W%2fRW%2fL%2fR644%2f112&pos=52) ).

Likely death notices for John DODGSON state that he died very suddenly on Wednesday the 22 May 1839 at Casterton. Both notices state "in the prime of life", rather than recording his actual age.

Thanks fretep. Since I posted this message, I have obtained a copy of Thomas Dodgson's will. In it, Thomas mentions his son John is deceased, and leaves all his goods to his granddaughters, John's children.
I now have birth and death dates for John Dodgson, so I thinks its about all I'm likely to find.
Thanks again for your interest and assistance.
