Title: Help with Grocock and Hall Family please
Post by: Pat on Saturday 17 May 14 05:46 BST (UK)
Charles James Grocock married Mary Ann Hall 14 May 1863 in Kirton, Lincs.   Also John Hall married Eliza Grocock 26 Feb 1866 In Moulton, Lincs.
Both marriages state Grocock father as James Grocock  also both Hall's have a father Thomas Hall. Unfortunately neither of these marriage show any witnesses which adds to the difficulty of knowing if I have the right Hall family which is my main interest.
My problem is I have been unable to find anything further on both these couples.  No census after the marriages.   I did find what may have been the right Charles Grocock boarding with a family in 1861. and also possibly Eliza boarding with another family in 1861.
I really need to find them at home with their father before their marriages to confirm I have the right people.
Any help with finding these couples after their marriages would be most appreciated.
Cheers,
Pat.

MARRIAGES,
St Andrew, Moulton, with Father as JAMES Grocock;
MARY Grocock  to Stephen WRIGHT, 13 Sept 1863
JOSEPH Grocock age 25 (Fathers Occp Publican) to Anne Maria HOLMAN, 14 Oct 1873
+ ELIZA Grocock to John HALL that you have.
(Source FreeREG)

1861 Census Josephs Father James is born c 1811 Silk Wikarty, Lincolnshire (sic) down as GROWCOCK. Mother Ann.
Children are;
Mary 1838
Catherine 1844
James 1846
Joseph 1848
Eliza 1849
Geo 1854
Henry 1856
Stephen 1859

I cant find the Family in 1851 but in 1841 they only have 3 Children;
James Grocock    30
Ann Grocock    25
Betsey Grocock    5
Mary Grocock    3
William Grocock    1

James GROCOCK of Silk Willoughby married Anne *ALKENCE of Askaby Parish, 15 May 1834, St Andrew, Asgarby by Sleaford
Witnesses, William and Marianne Taylor
(FreeREG)

As I cant find the 1851 Census it is hard to say if Joseph is a Brother of the Mary Ann and Charles Joseph Grocock you seek.

They are very elusive.
I cant find Stephen Wright with a Wife Mary in 1871 Census either.

I Rosie,
This information comes from the Kirton parish register, not a certificate.
14 May 1863 Charles Grocock (21) labourer Kirton/Skeldyke - Father James - labourer
to Mary Ann Hall (24) Kirton/Skeldyke - Father Thomas - Fisherman
I have not recorded any witnesses.  I did it too long ago to remember if there were witnesses and I couldn't read them or if there were none recorded.  For some unknown reason I haven't detailed the problem.
The marriage of John Hall and Eliza Grocock was on free REG.  Same fathers as the above previous marriage.
Cheers,
Pat

Could you please give the full details from the marriage certificates.

Rosie

Hi Trish, Thank you for your help.
You are quite right about the family being very elusive.  They sound very much like my Hall family but I really need to see a census to see where they were born.
Surely they couldn't have all died before the 1871 census, and  I don't think it's likely both couples have had their names misspelt on every census.
Thank you once again,
Pat

Eliza WALL (image is Hall), 22, Widow, Ag Lab, born Holbeach

You've been a great help Trish, thank you so much.  This entry certainly adds up to me.  I don't know how I can really prove it was the right John Hall though.
Hopefully I can somehow find Charles Grocock on a census with Mary Ann Hall and at least show she belongs to my Hall's.
Thanks to you it appears I have solved one half of my problem.
Cheers,Pat

Thank you for taking the time to answer my query.  No this is not mine.
I have found my Charles Grocock and Mary Ann Hall.  They were on my doorstep here in Australia all the time.  They left England soon after their marriage in 1863.
Unfortunately Mary Ann died in 1877.  I have yet to trace what happened to Charles and their children after her death.
Cheers,
Pat.

For your info Trish I finally found them.  They were on Anc. but not the one you mentioned.  They were in Prahran, Victoria Australia all the time.  They left England soon after their marriage.  Unfortunately  Mary Ann died in 1877.  I was able to download her death Cert last night, so know it's definitely them.  I have been unable to find anything on Charles Grocock and their children as yet.
There in another entry on Anc which links Charles Grocock with  a Digby.   I shall be able to check this out when I go to my local LDS centre.
Once again thank you for your help.
Pat.
