A friend of mine has asked me to help research their family - who originated from Scotland.
I am looking for a birth for Jack Pirie Rose who (according to his death certificate) was born in Lossiemouth on 25th June 1933.
My friend doesn't have a birth certificate for his Grandfather, but details taken from his marriage certificate show his father was John Rose.
I understand Jacks Mothers name could be Catherine/Kathrine Pirie (Pirrie).
I am not familiar with searching Scottish records - where to look etc. I do have a full subscription to Ancestry but cannot find anything.
Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Hi Fay ,
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ is the only place for Scottish BMD's.
The 1933 birth certificate cannot be viewed online as it is too recent , it would need to be ordered.
Lossiemouth is in the Parish of Drainie.

Thank you ev - during my search - which proved fruitless - I haven't been able to find a birth registration reference so therefore unable to order a copy of the certificate.
I will have a look at the link you provided to see if i can find it.

Just had a look and there is one possible match - however as it is a pay to view site then i need to buy credits to see if its the correct birth - but how do i know if it is the one i am looking for.
Is there a free site that will give a birth registration reference or any other details.

Is there a free site that will give a birth registration reference or any other details.
Not for Scotland.

If you do manage to get back earlier, Moray Council has a free site called Libindx which allows you to search for folk from Moray. It does give quite recent information on deaths.

Thank you all for your help.

It's £12 to order the certificate.

The birth I found on the index was Jack Pirie Rose 1933 Drainie , Moray.
From the information you have given I would feel fairly confident that is the correct one.

Thank you so much ev - is there a reference for the birth (that needs to be quoted when ordering the birth certificate).

How do I order an extract?
You must first register then purchase 30 credits at a cost of 7GBP to allow you to carry out a search for the extract. The system charges 1 credit per page of results (up to 25 entries) displayed.
Click on "ORDER" under the extract column next to the search result that interests you and that extract will be added to your shopping basket.
The number of items and total cost of items in your shopping basket will appear at the top of the screen.
Your shopping basket can be viewed when you are logged in by selecting “Shopping Basket” from the top menu.
You may add or delete items at any time during the purchase process. However, please note that after one hour of inactivity, or if you log out, items are deleted from your shopping basket automatically.
When you are ready to purchase your chosen item(s), hit “Next Stage” to proceed to the Purchase Page.
Hit "Purchase" to then proceed to the Secure Payment Page.
Check your personal, billing and shipping details are correct, and fill out your card details. Remember that you may cancel your purchase at any time.
When you make payment please ensure that you allow enough time for the transaction to finalise.
When the transaction is successful, you will be redirected back to the main site and receive an e-mail confirming the transaction.
