Title: RANDALL- GRAY Cranfield
Post by: Petros on Wednesday 25 March 15 17:19 GMT (UK)
Thomas RANDALL married Mary GRAY in Holcot 26 Mar 1733 and they settled in Cranfield where both were buried.

Unfortunately neither were apparently born there. All suggestions for possible births welcome.
I've found two Thomas born 1697 Marston Moretaine and 1699 Southill

I can't see a Thomas Randall baptism in Southill in 1699 in either the IGI or in the parish register transcript, although there is a John Randle in 1699 son of Thomas and Frances Randle, labourer. Where did you find this 1699 baptism?

Virtually all Bedfordshire baptisms and marriages pre 1813 are on the IGI, where the parish register/BT has survived. This is the only Randall entry that I can find in Holcot so it looks as though he was from elsewhere. I can't see that the Marston Moretaine Thomas died there before 1733. Hulcote, Marston Moretaine and Cranfield are all within 5 miles of each other. Proving it's the same Thomas is another matter though.

Sorry it was 1692, I mistyped the date. A little early I feel.

Proving the connection is the bugbear. And how many people were in their 30s when they married back then?

I am Andrew Randall, a direct descendant of Thomas & Mary Randall. Randalls were thick on the ground in Marston Moretaine from the mid-1600s to the 1920s. I'd been led to believe that Thomas was born in Marston.
Is Petros connected to the family?

Marston Moretaine is the right area but I don't know.

I'm descended from John Randall of Cranfield bap 16/12/1740 son of Thomas Randall & Mary

That's interesting. I am also descended from that John Randall, via his son Richard 1773-1846 who took over the tenancy of Church Farm, Marston Moretaine from his father John. Church Farm stayed in Randall occupancy till 1919.
Which of John's sons was your line?

I'm descended from John's daughter Elizabeth through her second marriage to John Berwick, latterley of Husborne Crawley

I have a lot of info on Elizabeth's siblings John 1769-1818 and Richard, and their descendants. Happy to share with you if you are interested. I know little about the other siblings. I'd love to learn more about them, and Elizabeth. Do you live in the UK? If so, I could give you my phone number. I live in Sevenoaks, Kent.
I have picked up useful stuff on the internet from Simon Galbreath, Brian Fleming, Peter Norman & Eve McLaughlin. Are you any of those?
The Randalls have other links with the Turneys apart from Elizabeth's first marriage. Thomas Turney 1770-1828 married Kitty Readman in 1799. Kitty's nephew Henry Readman 1823-1896 married Sarah Randall 1834-1901 in 1853. Sarah was the daughter of Elizabeth's nephew William Randall 1804-1867 who married Harriet Turney in 1826. These were all Husborne Crawley people. It was a farming mafia built on inter-marriage.
