Hi Bob, I live not to far from Cholderton (was called West Cholderton).  I didn't know Cholderton House was used as a hospital though.  I looked at the Red Cross list of hospitals and it's not listed.  I know the house was very badly damaged by fire in 2012; in fact it may have been demolished, I haven't been over there for some time.

Hi,LC
Thanks for that.
Various stories say that it was Women's Hospital, (for servicewomen) a hospital for nurses,
it may have been located either in Cholderton House, close by or even in Cholderton Lodge.
Any info no matter how sketchy is welcome.
Regards
Bob.

Believe Cholderton House was originally built by a Salisbury woolen merchant,it was not particularly big inside, but had a wonderful oak staircase, just a snippet know nothing of any use as a hospital but, quite possible.

Hello there, Cholderton house has never been a hospital in any shape or form. the house burnt down in 2012 and has been restored over the past years and was complete last year. Cholderton house was the home of my grandmother and is now lived in by my relatives. As someone said above the house was built for a merchant, it has also been occupied by many other people and was extended with a hall by my family. There are several pages which give very basic information about the house but i recommend looking up about the village in general as this gives some good information about what was happening at the times of owners of the house and who owned it. there is also a document talking about the re-build of the house which is also available on google. i hoped this helped

Hi Magnus.
My grandmother was in service at Cholderton House for several years from about 1929 to 1931, but left when she was 20 to get married. Her name was Ida Gladys Lever and she was from the village of Chilmark . According to my mother, she was very happy during her time at Cholderton House, and always said how nice her employers were.   Could you tell me what the family name was at that time ?  I wonder if there is anyone still alive who would know about those times.
Thank you for any information you may have - I am also on Ancestry and very interested in all these connections!
By the way, my name is Esme Sarasin and I live in Switzerland.
