Can anyone find Ephraim Careless in the 1841 or 1851 census please? He was born in 1822 somewhere in Bedfordshire. I have him on the 1861 census.
regards.

He's on Ancestry in 1851 as Carley
-
Ephraim Careless baptised 17 March 1822 Saint Paul Bedford - parents are James and Ann

Thanks. I am trying to find if he has a brother called James born 1820. Seeing as it looks like his father was called James it is looking quite likely.
regards.

I think in 1841 he's living in Biggleswade aged 20, a blacksmith, but the scans are terrible. Ancestry have indexed him as Ephram Carelife.
If you don't have Ancestry access shout and I'll write out the two censuses.
His marriage is on Steven Gibbs excellent site at http://www.stevengibbs.me.uk/Bedford-StPaulMarriages-1.htm#R263, father James Careless

Thanks to everyone for your help. I can now go back a lot further. I have got access to Ancestry Bedfordshire Boy, but thanks very much for the offer of writing out the info. for me. The surname has proved a bit of a challenge in the spelling department!
regards.

You mean transcribers and enumerators made a lot of careless errors?

Ho-ho David....... Just to say I have a number of Caress names from Eaton Socon that got recorded/transcribed as Careless...... Couldn't care less!
