Looking for information on David Watson and Catherine Skene. One of there daughters was named Mary Watson and she had a daughter wit William Nicol named Ann Ramsay Nicol. Somebody mentioned on here that William and Mary never actually married. Mary Watson was born 1824, Fordoun and died 1878 Stonehaven. Would like to see any possible census records linking her to David andCatherine? Thank you
Molly

Thank you Malky :) could somebody help me figure out how I would possibly go about perhaps going back another generation? Am I right in thinking because it's before 1855 a marriage certificate wouldn't have the parents names on it? I've bought a few on Scotlandspeople before and pre 1855 they're rather vague ???

Hi Molly :) ,
Have you looked at this death cert. on SP ?
Catherine Watson(other surname Skene) 1878 Fetteresso Kincardine , born c1798.
http://www.freecen.org.uk/ has Census transcriptions for Kincardineshire 1841/1851.

David Watson 64 labourer born Fordoun Kincardinshire
Catherine Watson 53 wife born Fordoun Kincardineshire

1841 Allardice Street , Stonehaven , Fetteresso , Kincardineshire(all born Kincardineshire)
David Watson 45 labourer
Catherine Watson 40
Ann Watson 11
Amelia Watson 6
If that is the correct family Mary Watson may have been working away from home by that time.

Hello Ev,
No I hadn't seen that death cert but I'll most definitely follow it up! It could well be the family in the 1841 census and as you say, Mary would've been about 17 at the time so she could well of been away for work :)

Hello Malky,
I don't know, I haven't heard of either of those names you've suggested if I'm honest! ;D

I lived in a farm at Skene, and now I am 2 miles from it, but still in Skene.

Are the names you suggested common first names for men of the area?

Ignore my last 2 posts. I went off on the wrong track. Apologies. I wonder if its "Kennie", as in colloquial for "Kenneth".

Ok Malky :) yes I did wonder if it was Kennie myself. I don't know if I'll ever know and unfortunately the name of the mother was left blank, so I'm all out of ideas as to what todo next
