I was wondering if anyone could help me.
I'm desperately trying to track the roots or any information of - George Newcombe Empey who married Susan Elizabeth Harkness in Nenagh, Tipperary Ireland in 1877. I believe they were both born in Ireland and immigrated to South Africa sometime after their marriage. Any information about the Empeys in Ireland will be helpful so if you know anything please reply.
Parents of James Newcombe Empey (born in Kilkenny) & Robert Harkness Empey, and possibly a Ivy Empey.

IF RC.. registers.nli.ie

Just Googled "Robert Harkness Empey" plenty of results...
e.g. Re your research on Findagrave.com, I am researching Robert Harkness Empey (among others), b:ca 1924, d:13.7.1944. He is descended from Emily Hickie whose family is my main interest.
Are you able to help with details of the family's emigration and life in South Africa? I am in contact with other descendants of Emily.
Regards,
Chris Berry

Yes the Robert you have mentioned died at 21 in World War 2 he was the son of James Newcombe Empey
I believe George Newcombe Empey and Susan Elizabeth Harkness had 3 Sons James Newcombe, George Allen and Robert Harkness. Perhaps James just named his one son after his brother, I'm not sure.
I think James was the only child to be born in Ireland (Kilkenny) and moved when he was very little.
James married Ada Florence Stevens in Durban South Africa and had children in South Africa, namely Patricia Harkness, Harry Newcombe , Robert Harkness, Florence Hazel, Terrence Denzil, Roland and Eleanor Kate.

That was just one of many results on Google... like I said if he was RC then registers are online, free!!

Do you have any advice on how to Find George Newcombe's parents? I've Googled and Googled but no real luck

Yes I've been following this, I don't think it can be coincidence, but I just haven't found the connection.
The only thing I know is the eldest son of the eldest son got the Middle name Newcombe, yet Walton's father never had the middle name, so strange.
I also have a feeling Newcombe comes from a Surname, much like Harkness and decendants having it as a middle name.

Great!, Now I just need to figure out Susan Elizabeth Empey's Birthdate

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01gea/ is a list where Empey is down/classified as Beneficiary, rather than Deceased!
While classified as Beneficiary they may just be doing Probate
-
http://www.willcalendars.nationalarchives.ie/reels/cwa/005014914/005014914_00261.pdf for example, comes up when putting Empey in as a Beneficiary, here he got Probate, just the way the Search works!

Draft pedigrees of Newcombe of Aghanvilla and Ballychristal, King's Co., c. 1750 -- c.1800.
Dublin: National Library of Ireland, Genealogical Office: Ms.820(13)
MIGHT be worth considering?? Not expensive, an email to jharte2'at'nli.ie would get your the cost...

Hi Nic,
Have you had much success with this research? For reference, George Newcombe Empey and Susan Elizabeth Empey (Harkness) were my great great grandparents, with their son James Newcombe Empey (who I believe was born in William Street, Kilkenny), being the father of my grand parent Roland (Rowley) Empey.
