Title: William Bruce + Watson
Post by: Mollyrobz on Wednesday 04 November 15 13:59 GMT (UK)
Please help me find a death for William Bruce, husband of Agnes Watson. I believe they married in 1840 Garvock. I think I've found him on the 1881 census still alive in St Cyrus and on the death certificate of his son William he's noted as being deceased and that was in 1904. So a death date during that time frame seems likely

Hello Ev,
Thank you very much for finding me this information, yes both parents were noted as being deceased on Williams death cert so I'm pretty sure you've found the right ones. Thank you very much for your help  :)

Would anybody be as kind to help me further with my searches on this family? I now have copies of the two death certs previously mentioned. Nancy Watson has her parents as James Watson (Crofter) and Mary Beattie, both deceased. She was 74 when she died which gives a rough birth year of 1819. William Bruce's parents where William Bruce (ploughman) and Helen Gibb, both deceased. His age was 77 when he died so rough birth of 1818.
I have a copy of a death cert for a Helen Gibb (other name Bruce) 1862 daughter of (something) Gibb and Isobel Dakers(?) 77 when she died in KincRdine. Also a copy of a death cert for a Mary Beattie ( other name Watson) 1859 Benholm 78 years, dau of William Beattie and Mary Leighton. This last two certs may not be right, so I'd like to try and find out somehow also any census regarding William Bruce (husband of Gibb) and James Watson (husband of Beattie)
Thank you :) molly

Ev,
Thank you for this info. I believe that the 1851 census family is correct also as on Helen Gibbs death cert it also has 'springing greens' as the death location.
That last link you sent me has the parents of William Bruce but on the death cert tht I have no parents are named as he passed away in the 'montrose lunatic asylum'.
On that 1851 census of mary beattie as a widow, is that a possible brother of her husband?
I know have a copy of the marriage certificate for James Watson and Mary beattie but I can't seem to find oout who James was. Does anybody reading this no of anything?

Could it be her son ?
There are references to children -
Thomas b. 1802
James b. 1804
John b. 1807
Jane b. 1810
George b. 1812
Helen b. 1822

So there is a gap for a William Watson b c1816 and Agnes Watson b. c1819.

Indexed IGI -

Regarding mary beattie, there was one that died 1959 in Benholm other surname Watson, Daughter of william Beattie and Mary Leighton yet when I search for a birth in the OPRs the only one remotely close is a Mary Beattie, dau of David Beattie and Margaret Robertson. I'm not sure which one is mine  ???

Unfortunately for various reasons the Parish records are not complete.
Also the parents named on a death certificate were only to the best of the informant's knowledge , as
many of us have discovered the information is not always accurate.

Hello Ev,
So are you saying that it could quite possibly be the same person? Oh no, that makes things even more difficult

Fun... William was my great, great uncle. George Bruce, William's younger brother, was my great grandfather.
