Searching for a marriage of Katharine McKay Ramage to James Taylor, more than likely in Sanquhar or Wanlockhead circa early 1800's, first child born we think, about 1813, a boy William Taylor m Margaret McLeod. Any assistance with this Taylor family would be much appreciated from Scottish records - searched Ancestry and no marriage suitable found ! TIA

Sorry, nothing in Scotland for a marriage of this couple nor a birth of a William (Taylor/Ramage) including spelling variants in Dumfries. The only birth that could be a possibility occurred in Dalry Ayr in 1815 son of James no mother listed.

I take it this is the family at Wanlockhead in 1841:
William Taylor, "25", lead miner
Margaret, "35"
Charles, 9
Janet, 7
James, 3
Catherine, 1
All born in the county
What was the occupation of William's father? Have you found his parents on the 1841 census? There is always the possibility that William was actually born outside the county, but moved there so young that he did not realise or had forgotten.

I have a family bible in the name of Charles Ramage. There are a number of entries written in it it records a marriage of William Taylor and Margaret McLeod on 11th Feb 1831. There are several births noted after that date. It matches the 1841 and 1851 census. Hope this is a help
