Title: Killarney/Muckross graveyards
Post by: Johnorrett on Monday 15 February 16 17:51 GMT (UK)
Hi folks, my wife and I will be visiting Killarney in spring to have a look for some family members who are buried in the area. I could do with a bit of help as to where they are!

Someone thinks they could be buried in Killegy graveyard, and also at Muckross cemetery. I believe they were Church of Ireland.

I have had a look at a map of Killarney graveyards, but can only find Aghadoe, Killaha and New Cemetery. I have found a map showing Killegy, but unsure where Muckross cemetery is. Some of the relatives were buried between 1874 and 1946.

Any help greatly appreciated>

Thanks,

John

Thanks to all for the links. I have already looked at all 3 without success. My ancestors were the Ross family. I have a lot of the death info etc from the genealogy sites, it is more a case of am I missing any old graveyards that are not on modern maps.

This is the site that gave me the location of Killegy. I am unsure whether Muckross Abbey and Muckross cemetery are one and the same.

Thanks.

Thanks for that, I have had good success on that page. Eliza Ross is one of the relatives, but unfortunately it just given burial details as Killarney, nothing more specific. A very useful site though, many thanks.

I have had confirmation from a relative that the graveyard in question is Killegy, in Killarney. The family called that Muckross cemetery as it is nearby.

Apparently some other relatives died in Killarney, but are buried in Kilbeacanty near Gort in Galway.

I have had a quick look for some obits in the Kerry newspapers, but not come across anything yet - there doesn't seem to be a lot for Kerry.

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction

Just a late thank you. My wife and I found both her grandparents grave in Kilbeacanty and her great grandparents grave in Killarney. Another trip is planned for next year!
