Hi

There are 5 children showing as born to the marriage between 1936 and 1948.  Are any still alive who could answer your query?

You have to buy a copy of the cert to get his exact death date and also his address at that time as here are all the areas covered by the Grimsby RD

Hi CaroleW,
thanks for your response, im a afraid no one i can ask,I am not in touch with my father or whats left of his kin that are alive,  also i have only 4 births to his marriage, and unfortunatly i never knew my grandad Dennis,i was always told he died before i was born,i am assuming the marriage broke down and he moved to grimsby since finding out he died their, and was not aware he died in Grimsby till i started researching this side of my tree, hence i was hoping someone on here would be able to help me trace where he his buried/cremated.
many thanks

If you check on the 1939 register there is a Dennis Storrs living in Scunthorpe with his wife. His exact date of birth is given ( I'm afraid we can't give information on here.) If that is the correct one and you then buy the death certificate, it should have the date of birth on it so you will know if it is him. As Carole said, I'm afraid there is probably no other way of finding out accept by buying the certificate. The registry office wont give you the information unless you do.

Birthdates only appeared on death certs from 1969

Hi Debbie

Unfortunately the death cert won't show whether he was buried or cremated or where.

Information on Grimsby cemeteries/crematoria here

https://www.nelincs.gov.uk/births-marriages-and-deaths/grimsby-crematorium-cremations-cemeteries/#1455714443842-6f9befd8-d0e4

the council are working with www.deceasedonline.com but he's not listed, they do make a charge if you contact them direct and ask for a search.

Scunthorpe comes under a different council, here's link to that

http://www.northlincs.gov.uk/community-advice-and-support/burials-and-cremation/searching-for-local-graves/

they also charge for look-ups if you can't visit in person

If you get the certificate it should tell you where he died and if that wasn't his usual address should tell you that. It will tell you who registered the death, but that may not be of any help if it wasn't a relative.

Most people were buried or cremated near their home address, unless there were family graves elsewhere, so an address on the certificate may give you an idea of where to start looking.

Hi Groom,
many thanks and i have heard form Grimsby Crematorium who hold the records for that area where Dennis died unfortunatly they have no record for him.
So it seems like hes not buried/Cremated in Grimsby where he died.
I will contact Scunthorpe Crematorium to see if they have any record for him been brought home.
Not sure where to go after that if they dont have him either.
many thanks

The death certificate might help if that gives his usual address. It's so frustrating when you know that he must have been buried/cremated somewhere isn't it?

You could make enquiries at local undertakers, they would have record of dealing with the funeral and be able to tell you where he's buried. I don't know if they would charge for a search though. You'd need the date of death I should think.

There was a recent topic about a Grimsby funeral director who did a funeral in 1962 and died 1967 so the business may have closed down with his death.

Funeral Directors come and go, just like any business. They retire or sell up to larger groups such as Dignity (Kettles of Scunthorpe) or the Co-op (Cleary's)

I would ask here first

http://www.clearysfuneralservice.co.uk/about-us/our-history

These haven't  been around long enough

http://www.jasonthreadgoldfuneraldirector.com/

http://www.jnaylor-funerals.co.uk/Contact.html

http://scunthorpefuneralcare.co.uk/

If the business closed down between 1967 and now, then there may not be any surviving records

There was probably the Co-op too.

If you had a share number you'd yet a 5% discount. :)

Hi Dawnsh and Geoff,
many thanks for your suggestions and  Geoff no discount ;) i have a a relative who married in to my family and works for a large national funeral company no discount  :( :( :(, but may ask him  ;D just to be cheeky.

Unfortunatly without knowing where my grandad was taken after death, ive no way of finding him by all accounts .
I have today heard from Scunthorpe Bereavement Service (they checked their records and they have no record of him been cremeated in Scunthorpe, so unless hes in church yard of which apparently there is 9 according to SBS, i only knew of 3 and im born and bred scunthorpe, admittedly havent live their since 1991, im not sure what to do know.
Many thanks

Hi all,
further update in the quest for my grandfather Burial/Cremation.
heard back from Scunthorpe records not at the Crematorium, maybe at cemeteries records but due to having 9 cemeteries without knowing which one he maybe in unfortunatly they dont have the time to do a search, understandibly, but they are happy for me to go and look myself,so will have to take a trip during a weekday as not open weekends when i would normally go home.
But  they say that grimsby should have the details of his Burial/Cremation as they would have recieved his disposal certificate as his death was registered with them, so have emailled  Grimsby  again to ask them to look at their disposal records. not holding my breathe, so frustrating, why dident they look for this  Disposal Certificate knowing that they would recieve it as his death registered with them, bureaucrats do my head in.
Many thanks Debbie xx

Have you received his death certificate yet? I know it's frustrating, but I would wait until I got that, as it should give his usual address and that might give you more clues. It will also give you the exact date of his death, which will shorten any searches.

Hi Groom,
No not received the death cert,( the registrar has said that i wont get address on death cert,so it wont  actually help me find him, shes double checking the record to see if it is actually on it before i pay for it).
Have heard from Grimsby today by email, they have passed on my request to the relevant department who deal with the disposal certificate, why dident they just do that last week when i first enquired surely they know what the procedure is when a death is registerd with them.

Did you receive the death certificate yet Debbie?

Something else to consider, could he have been buried in the same place as his parents, or a child if one passed away before him? He might have already bought a grave site?

Hi Angelfish,
yes got death cert, nothing on it to help with his burial/cremation, other than me going and physically searching burial records in scunthorpe when i next go home during a weekday, (which is highly unklikely as i tend to go home to visit family on weekends when grandkids off school, may have to go during 6weeks holidays at some point ,also dependant on my days off from work,)has records section only open monday-friday.
I will also have to check for his parents,  but as yet ive not found their burials, only deaths which were local to scunthorpe, no sign of grave plot been bought either, like i said in previous posts their are nine cemetery sites to go at.
many thanks
Debbie xx
