Hello (I hope I am posting in the correct board)
I am researching a tree for a friend... this is my first venture into Scottish genealogy, so I am on a learning curve with place names, tho' I am using google maps.
William Skinner Duncan born 16Feb1903, Pumpherston\Newington - I would like to find him on a census and confirm his parents' names.
I have Robert Duncan (William Skinner Duncan's dad) born Falkfland, Fife.
As there are a number of Robert's I am trying to get definite confirmation of Robert being William's father and to confirm his mum's maiden name.
I have access to the census for 1901 and before but as William was born 1903 that is why I am stuck - such a shame he was not born a few years earlier.
Any help gratefully received.

Whilst transcribed Scottish census records are on Ancestry - I think you will need to spend some money buying units on Scotlands People.

You have everything on their - downloadable BMDs - they are brilliant. So much more info than the English ones. Also the actual Scottish census records.

Hello Pennines,
Thank you very much for your reply, if you don't mind I'll hold off on that as a last resort. I have previously brought units but find that I am so used to a subscription that the I run through the units too quickly.
Once again, many thanks

Unfortunately, SP is the only place where you can check the 1911 census for Scotland so checking this is not a 'last resort' for you it's the only resort.

Hello Annette
Thank you - I was hoping to work my way round but I'll have to give in :)
I'll just concentrate and make sure I don't waste my units.
Cheers. x

Well - never let it be said that I am mean!
Looking at his birth record he was born on the date you gave at 1 Prospect Place Edinburgh.
Parents Robert Duncan, Joiner and Christina (nee Symons?) who had married in Jan 1898 in Glasgow.
That may help you identify the correct people on census records.

Hello Pennines,
What a star you are and no, I would never have thought you were mean.
you are very kind and I shall be for ever indebted to you. I can look-up something for you at TNA, Kew if you wish.
Now, call me silly, but I went back to Scotlands People and found that I had not used all of my credits.
Thank you so very much.
