Welcome to Rootschat, you will find plenty of people here to offer help and advice.

Are you sure they were both buried and not cremated?

If your father was Peter John William Benning who died 12 August 2003, you could apply for his will which went to probate 17 September 2004, then you could try tracing the executors who should be able to tell you.

Hi Jebber,
I have no idea if they were buried or cremated. Living in switzerland this is all so complicated for me.
Thank you for your advice!

Most of Ealing's cremations are done at either Breakspear - http://www.hillingdon.gov.uk/breakspearcrematorium/
or Mortlake - http://www.mortlakecrematorium.org/

Not sure about burials, as I don't know of anyone who took that route around here lately  :)

I emailed Breakspear crematorium, they are not in their records.

I emailed Mortlake crematorium, still waiting to hear.

I emailed Bereavement Services at Ealing council to see if they are buried at South Ealing and am waiting to hear.

When I phoned, people asked me to email in as they are all so busy dealing with the recently bereaved.

It's the same situation with a lot of London cemetery and crematorium offices.

They will deal with you immediately if you want to arrange a funeral.

Hi Nici

I have heard back from Mortlake Crematorium.

Both Edith and John were cremated at Mortlake. Edith’s cremated remains were scattered in the gardens of remembrance on Area RB4(56) and Johns remains were collected by the funeral directors and given to the applicant of the cremation.

I have his name so will send that by pm.

I gave Mortlake the full name and the dates from this topic and I have just copied and pasted their reply.

I would suggest that maybe whoever arranged the funeral gave his name as they knew it to be or as "John Benning also known as Peter John". There isn't a plain 'John' in the GRO death index.

The staff at Mortlake may have used their computer to find those with Benning as a surname and looked for the date range.
