Hi folks,
A little help with deciphering a marriage entry at Wighton would be appreciated if anyone could take a look.
The entry is 9 November 1718 at Wighton and reads:
Sherman Cutler of 'T---ford'? and Marie Oats(?) of '---s'? were married...
Here is the page on FamilySearch:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-DT7S-S4G?i=79&wc=92BL-922%3A30434901%2C29358102%2C30487601%3Fcc%3D1416598&cc=1416598
Excited to have tracked him down (such an unusual name), but struggling to find out where their children were baptised and feel as they both seem to have been strangers to the parish in 1718, the locations above are vital clues, potentially.
Help!

Hi
James
FreeReg's transcript has Thetford and Wells.
There seems to be a burial for Mary wife of Sheerman Cutler at Kings Lynn 21.12.1722.
So it's possible there aren't too many children.
Possible burial for Sherman 19.3.1764 at Cromer
Also a possible baptism at Thetford
Sherman(y) daughter of John and Margaret Cutler 11th March 1698.
Did the vicar check?
ps an apprenticeship for Sharman Cutler to Charles Moore of Warham gardener 9th July 1718.

Norfolk Records Office, if you search NORCAT by Cutler, Sherman.
There is an entry for a settlement certificate of Sherman Cutler and Wife Mary 18 January 1719 certifying parish Thetford St Peter, parish of residence Thetford St Cuthbert.
Ref P/D 168/43/4
Hopefully this is your Sherman Cutler and wife Mavis.
I think the following entry is for a son or relative Ref Wills 1787-1789 fo360, (1789 no 55)
Sherman Cutler of Runton died 1789.
Burial at Runton 13 July 1789
Search under Sherman Cutler:
Land purchase Overstrand 1784 land and mill Ref WKC1/425 393x6
Land deeds Overstrand gives the entire list of who how and when purchased inherited etc. re late Sherman Cutler 1813 deceased. ref M/C 2534/1-20,980x3

Hi everyone,
Thank you so much for all these juicy leads. Really appreciate it and I'm definitely one step further.
And yes, this Sherman Cutler's son (also named Sherman) lived in Cromer & Runton, and is known locally for the stone carved with his initials and the date 1770 which appears at low tide off the cliffs of Runton.
Haven't yet found his (Sherman Cutler jr.) baptism, but hopefully he'll turn up in one or another of these parishes.
It surprises me how much they moved about, in comparison to my other Norfolk and Suffolk ancestors who lived at the same time. Thetford-Wighton-Lynn-Cromer... the distances are not small.
I'll post any findings to this thread in case it's of use to anyone in future,

Hi James
I descend from Judith Cutler c 1744 in Runton. She was dtr of Sherman Cutler & Mary. I assume this was Sherman senior, and Judith was probably a step sister of Sherman jnr. who married Rosamond Sizeland. Unfortunately i cannot find a marriage for Sherman & Mary, or may be Judith was actually child of Sherman jnr. & Rosamond, and Mothers name was incorretly entered. Any help would be appreciated
