Title: Gravestone inscriptions Myddle parish Charles Davies
Post by: jhawk10 on Monday 08 August 16 13:36 BST (UK)
Has anyone the inscription on the grave of Charles DAVIES of the Tan house, Marton, born Wilcott Marsh, Great Ness 1845, died Corwen, Merionethshire 8 Nov 1866 and buried Myddle parish 11 Nov 1866? It is believed he was likely the unmarried father to a child born in Llangollen 1865.

Hello
There is no recorded grave stone for Charles DAVIES at Myddle but the burial register shows he was aged 21.
There is a grave stone for Mary DAVIES aged 25 who died 24 May 1877 the daughter of David & Eliz. DAVIES of Tan House, Marton.  This is situated behind the church on the left of the path leading to the new graveyard.
Could Mary be a younger sister of Charles?
Mike

Thank you for that. The SFHS has Charles in grave 118 with Sarah (aged 2) and William (aged 1 month). Mary is next to it in grave 119. They are all siblings from the Tan House. There were 8 recorded children of whom Charles was the eldest, born 1845 in Wilcott Marsh killed on 8/11/1866 in Corwen when as a porter on a train he slipped and fell below the wheels. I do not expect the stone has any more significant information but perhaps a image would be nice.
