Title: Hans G Schindler
Post by: bobtonks on Wednesday 31 August 16 18:03 BST (UK)
In 1949 Hans G Schindler married Maggie Dennett-Thorpe (or Thorpe) in Tonbridge - FreeBMD

From 1964 to 1972 ( and maybe beyond) they were living in Impington Cambs. Maggie died 2009 and Hans 2011 - both living Bourn Cambs.
The  bereavement details (local paper) state that they were both parents, grand parents and great grand parents. Maggie's name is shown as Maggie (Diana). It doesn't give their ages.

Can anyone see Hans and Maggie's birth details; and their children's names?  or maybe they already had children when they married.
Any help appreciated

Bob

Was Maggie a spinster when they married? If neither Dennet nor Thorpe was her maiden name, then it will be harder to pinpoint children from the Birth indexes.

Even if we could spot them, we couldn't name them here as may be still alive.

When did they die? You should be able to get their ages at death from death index.  Seeing who registered the deaths, and/or looking for a Will are other ways of researching what offspring they had.

Yes there was a Will

And also for MAggie Diana Schindler ( I wont try and post another link!!)

Hi
Maggie Wing married Alexander T Dennett-Thorpe in Lewes in 1929. Other register gives birth as 6 Feb 1912.

Cant see any Schindler children with mmn Wing.

So the children mentioned were probably of previous marriage(s)

Plenty of Thorpe children with mmn Wing just after that marriage!

L & C

Thanks for that. Unfortunately, the bereavement records didn't give their ages. I will look up her children Thorpe/ Wing and should be able to find her birth.(Fbmd) At the moment  I don't have access to the census records.

The new death indexes (part transcribed?) 2008-2013 give Hans Gunter Schindlers age as 91 in 2011 so born 1920.

Thank you again. His wife Maggie must have been even older, I guess. If her first marriage was 1929 then she was born before 1914 and died 2009.... making her 96, 97 + +

I found 3 Dennett Thorpe/Wing children.

Thanks for the info. Really interesting.
I guess Hans was a POW. It would be interesting to know where he was born and maybe his war details. Was he a pilot, soldier or sailer?

I have some information on Hans Gunter Schindler. I believe he was born in Berlin 30th October 1924 and in 1949 he married Maggie Dennett-Thorpe.

If this is "your" Hans Gunter Schindler let me know and I will find all the information that I have.

Carl

I'm not sure that the information I have is "your" Hans.

Hans & Maggie Schindler lived at No 9 Pepys Terrace for over 40 years. I have a picture of Maggie in 2002. (and possibly a picture of Hans). I found some information on a Hans Schindler dated 19th Dec 1940 which stated that Hans was residing at a Hostel for Boys. It states that his father was dead, his mother last heard of in Germany and he came to the Uk in 1938 under the care of Inter-Aid Committee. It gives his birth as 30/10/24 Berlin.

If you would like copies of this info let me know ... and where to send it.

Hello All,
I was just doing some research on my family history and came across this topic.
My Father was born in January 1946, he was adopted.
The birth certificate has the name  of the mother as Maggie Thorpe, formerly Wing, father unknown.
He was born in the County Hospital Pembury Tonbridge/Tunbridge Wells. The address of Maggie Thorpe was given as 13 Chapel Place, Tunbridge Wells. A domestic servant.
I am just wondering if this could be the Maggie I am looking for?
Any information would be greatfully received.
Regards
