Post by: Vengeur on Saturday 15 October 16 10:23 BST (UK)
Does anyone go to the Archives in Peterborough St., Christchurch?  I have a divorce record that I would be very grateful to know the contents of, if someone can help. I have the full record reference

Thanks

Hi Vengeur

Just to make you aware the all divorce records now have a 100 year restriction on them.

"Access Statement:

The records are restricted for 100 years from closure of record.

Records containing sensitive personal information are restricted indefinitely

Access to restricted records is subject to the written authorisation of the Court Manager.

Dissolution of Marriage or Civil Union Records
Under both High Court Rules and Family Court Rules former parties to a marriage or a civil union have an unrestricted right to obtain a copy of the order dissolving the marriage or civil union. These dissolution orders can be viewed at, or copies obtained from Archives New Zealand on production of sufficient proof of identity (photo identification e.g. passport/drivers’ licence)."

Cheers Janette

Thanks Janette - based on that information, I'll doubt I'll ever see the records then!

Hi Valsgirl - I have checked on Papers Past but as the divorce was after 1945 I could not find anything.
