John Peters and his wife Mary are living in 1841 in Overton Flintshire with three children Edward aged five,Elizabeth three and John aged one.In later Census years Mary is consistently given as born in Overton in c 1805.The question I've got is a very difficult one perhaps?I'm trying to find a marriage for John and Mary.

Definitely Flintshire as far as I can tell - will do some investigations - others are from Ellesmere!
-
An outside possibility that it could be Hanmer / or Bronnington. Some others in the same set went on to marry there ::)
Bless Family search ;D

I don't immediately recognise it anyway!

I've just checked up on the vicar who signed. It was E. H. Dymock. He was vicar of Hanmer 1832-35
See:

I think bad handwriting has caused Hanmer to be misread as Llanmaes ;D ;D ;D
Added - try this
Hanmer
Llanmaes
-
Its very possible then.

Think so - not far from Overton. I think some of my Hanmer 'lot' were married at Overton in the dim distant past
.

Yes no doubt.

1838 PETERS Elizabeth. Overton
1840 PETERS John Overton
Their birth certificates should have mothers maiden name. That may make it easier.
-
Don't think WR is keen on buying certificates, Wilcoxon.
There's nothing obvious in the Overton parish registers nor the E&W non-conformist registers. Have you got the Flintshire non-c records?
-
No I don`t .

Wrexham Advertiser. Not much help , but ..........

My focus on all this is trying to find further info for my relative Mary Griffiths born in Overton in 1805.I strongly believe this Mary was the Mother of a John Griffiths born in 1823 in Overton.John going on to marry a Sarah Butler at Ruabon in 1846.

So how are you linking John Peters / Mary Griffiths / John Griffiths / Sarah Butler
Where do the Peters fit in ?
-
Well I suspected that the Mary who married John Peters may have been my Mary Griffiths.

Was John illegitimate if both names were Griffiths. Mary would be c 18.
Does he have a father named on his marriage.?
Do you have his parents marriage ?
Do you think father Griffiths died and Mary remarried to Peters.

Thanks, yes this John Griffiths was quite a problem to me for quite sometime.Though I knew that his Marriage Cert said that his father was given as a Richard Griffiths,it appears that this was highly deceptive.I looked for quite a few years in the Overton area for a baptism of a John Griffiths with father Richard. Some time later i seen the baptism in 1823 of a John to a Mary Griffiths single woman.I'm assuming that the Mary is the Mary baptised in 1805 to a Richard Griffiths and a Sarah Newnes who married in 1804.
This Richard and Sarah are my Greatx3-Grandparents,as I'm descended from their son Samuel baptised in 1811.Coming back to John now, though his father is given as Richard on his Marriage Cert,it is not unknown I've found in cases where the man is illegitimate for his Grandfather's name to be offered.

Indeed a sticky one, but I would say the only way to be sure what Mary Peters maiden name was is the children's birth certificate.
-
Thanks and as you said a bit of a sticky one.

Going back to Mary Pearce, there is one is in this volume, but no idea if it`s a B, M or D.
May be worth looking at.
