Photo of Maj. Francis Aubrey Swartz (Ret.) (1924-1996). This photo was taken during the Korean War when Francis was a young American fighter pilot. The plane pictured may be an F 100. Francis was said to have served in both the U.S. Marines and U.S. Air Force. Francis was born in Virginia and died in San Antonio, Texas. He was one of 11-13 Swartz siblings and a brother to Margaret Jane Swartz (1914-1997). Francis had four wives.
Need a little color in the photo.

Suggestion: Need a larger file to work on please

Sorry, I don't have a larger photo/file available.

Sorry, beyond me then. Someone else might do better:

Thank you to everyone for your help with Francis' Photo. The 'old warhorse' would've liked it.
Family lore has it that Francis Aubrey Swartz kept a .45 pistol under his pillow at night in fear of the communists. He was a staunch anti-communist.

Francis Aubrey Swartz was cremated right after his death in 1996 in the San Antonio, Texas, area. His ashes were kept in the family until at least Nov 2001 by his now-deceased wife Mary Swartz.
-
Laucis Swartz is mentioned in the 1930 US Census (Maryland). His name may be a misspelling of Francis Swartz.

2Lt. Garret Thomas Kaess had dinner with Maj. Francis Aubrey Swartz (Ret.) and Francis' wife Mary Swartz in 1991 when Garret was attending Army OBC at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. Garret also said that Francis flew B17's over Germany during WWII and was a POW during the Korean War. These may be family yarns, until proven otherwise.

Garret Thomas Kaess stated (in 1991) he saw newspaper clippings from a story about 21 Aviators shot down over Korea, and Francis Aubrey Swartz was one of the folks mentioned. He said Francis' wife Mary Swartz had shown him the clippings in 1991. Garret believes the POW article was published in 1951 or 1952.
