Title: Norfolk help
Post by: hunterterri58 on Thursday 05 January 17 20:14 GMT (UK)
Norfolk records seem hard to track down and I have an ancestor that I am researching at the moment that I could really use some help on.
His name is Henry John Brand and he says he is from East Tuddenham in Norfolk on the census.  He was married in 1892 to Hannah Esther Crick and I know his father is John Brand, but that is all I can find.  I cannot find his birth or his family.
Any thoughts  :)

Marriage record has his father as a coachman.  It doesn't state deceased on it, but that does not means that he was actually alive.

I also found that 1881 census record, but can't find the family in 1871.

Birth record -

John Henry Cursons
q3 1870, Saint Faiths, Norfolk
Vol 4b Page 95

No mother maiden name on GRO, which could indicate that the above John was illegitimate

Wow!  Thank you so much everyone.  That has really got me going now!  I can see that the facts are there, but I don't understand why he was married at Henry John Brand and the John Henry Cursons s not there?

Well, he was too young to know that his parents did not marry until after he was born and they never told him.  ;)

A lot of people changed their names or the order of their names to the one they preferred, so it is a logical step to look for the names in a different order at birth.

Thank  you so much for your help.  I have sent off and received the Birth certificate and he was definately illigitimate and was registered as John Henry.  At  least that clears that up.  :)
