MACLURE dna
I would be willing to pay the costs for a male Maclure to have their dna tested who is descended from someone in the Glenelg area . I could not accept Skye as it is thought Maclures from there are not related to those on the mainland. If someone matches me then that in itself could prove we are not related to Skye.
It is believed my ancestor left with Alexander Macleod in 1793 on "the Argyll"
I could only afford one test.

You might be better off with autosomal DNA testing on yourself, or if possible, a relative from this line from a previous generation.
This could pick up clues as far back as 7G grandparents, though not reliably that far back. 4th to 6th cousins, i.e. sharing 3rd to 5th great grandparents, are considered good matches at Ancestry.

I was able to match one Mclure who has a paper trail back to Glenelg.
I am still looking for another to confirm our findings.
I would also like to find someone from Ontario, Canada as it is believed quite a few went there.
Thanks,
Rod

I have Maclure/Macleor ancestry from Glenelg - descended from Catherine Macleor, daughter of Roderick Macleor, Weaver. I am on AncestryDNA. There might just be the one male Maclure left in Glenelg now

There is a McClure/Macclure/McLure DNA Project under the Family Tree DNA umbrella. They would love to have you on board.

Hello I am also on Ancestry. I have been able to match a few cousins who changed their name to Dewar after leaving Scotland. I also have a y-dna match to someone in England who can trace their family back to Glenelg.
I am related to Catherine Mcleor who married Alexander Chisholm according to a booklet by Donald Keith Dewar

Hi RDmcclure,

Good luck on your research.
