Hi there'
Have the above name after a man's name and before his wife's name on a marriage register, 1778 Lochfoot, Dumfries
Suggestion has been made that it is where he came from but can't find that or even a place called Howard on googlemaps. It isn't his surname though
Thanks for assistance

It appears to have been a dwelling near to Haugh of Urr.in the parish of Buittle acording to this
link..
http://www.kirkcudbright.co/placesearch.asp?PlaceSearch=howyard
What was the name of the couple ,may find mention of it in MI's.

Hi Matt
Thanks for that info. He was John WATSON and bride Ann SLOAN, in 1778. Lochfoot is after Ann's name and it is only about 11m from the Haugh of Urr. McDougal is another name in the area but on the other side of the family
Thank you for looking
Cheers

Hi, I was at a talk by Dr David Deveraux a couple of weeks ago. This was on excavations at Tongland Abbey, just North of Kirkcudbright. On an old map which he showed the place, Howyard was quite clearly marked just South of the old Churchyard at Tongland.

Hi Meegan :)
Howe Yard is on this old OS map roughly central. You can zoom in and out to see its relationship to other places:

That is wonderful, thanks so much. The E on the end makes it more interesting so will follow that name up as well
You have been so helpful, thanks

However, just to make it more difficult, here's Howyard in Buittle parish - the one that Matt mentioned:
