Access to SP is via purchase of credits - not by annual subscription
-
I see is there any other way to find out who his parents were
Thanks

No entry on Family Search so SP is your only way. The index search is free and it's only £7.50 for 30 credits

If he died from 1855 onwards - his parents names plus mothers maiden name will be on his death cert

Thank you

Have you looked at the early census? There is for example this entry from 1841:
James Whitecross 45 Linen Hand Loom Weaver
Elspeth Whitecross 45
Joseph Whitecross 15 Linen Hand Loom Weaver
Thomas Whitecross 15 Linen Hand Loom Weaver
Anna Whitecross 13 Flax Spinner
William Whitecross 10
Mary Whitecross 7
Address: Southesk Str, Montrose, Angus
Ages in 1841 are normally rounded to the nearest 5 years for everyone over 15 years old.

There is this 1841 entry for Angus but it was Montrose - not Kirriemuir but he's the right age and later censuses don't show any other Thomas Whitecross in that age range
South Esk Street - all b Angus
James Whitecross 45 Linen hand loom weaver
Elspeth 45
Joseph 15
Thomas 15
Anna 13
Mary 7
William 10

In 1851 he is aged 25 and appears to be married to a Lilly b 1820 Benvir and suspect she was nee Hutchenson as there is a 5yr old Douglas Hutchenson b Benvir with them. They are lodgers so no relationship shown
Liff and Benvie ED 95 Page 16 Line 5
Still alive in 1861 but seems to be widowed

Can't see this family in 1841....but with Carole's suggestion of checking on SP...
I can't see Thomas' details, but there are children born in Kirriemuir in the right time frame to a David Whitecross and a Jean Lindsay (which you have mentioned).
Margaret 1802
Ann 1803
Betty 1805
James 1807
Janet 1809
David 1811
William 1814
Jean 1815
Elizabeth 1818
Frances 1820
What is the source of the name Jane Lindsay as a possible mother to Thomas?
One online tree (available to view only www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/36734920/person/19388811477/factswith a subs to A/try - gives at least one additional child to this couple:
Alexander 1823

Added: Some additional notes here for some of these children http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hilaryfr/whytcross/whitecross/
Also, lots of details here on RC from an old post www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=426981.msg2923190#msg2923190

In 1871 he is re-married to Catherine so downloading a copy of his marriage cert will give parental info
He was still alive in 1901
-
He died in 1901 according to the SP index
Thomas Whitecross aged 73 Arbroath 272/1 239
It costs 6 credits to download a copy of his death cert = £1.50

From some of the entries mentioned by Carole, this is 1861 in full:
Thomas Whitecross 34 b. Kirriemuir
Joseph Whitecross 5 b. Dysart Fife
James Whitecross 1 b. Arbroath
Lawrence Whitecross Under 1 Month b. Arbroath
Catharine Blackward 32 servant b. ? Fifeshire
Address: Croals Wynd, Arbroath
I think baby Lawrence above should read William? https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYB4-BF7
Catherine Blackward....should be Blackwood...is I think who shows as wife to Thomas in later years. Cannot see a marriage though. They either didn't marry or the marriage was irregular and will not show on the statutory registers.
In the 1871 census there shows an additional child, Francis born 1869 in Alyth. There is this possible index entry https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FQXD-Y9R Catherine mother is showing as Dickson. There seems to be a number of surnames coming in an out...
Best bet is the 1901 death registration mentioned by Carole.
