I'm researching the Roberts family who were living at Tan Lan Penmachno on the 1951 Census
David Roberts born 1811 Penmachno, Miner
Jane " " 1816 Llanmihangel, Denbighshire ( I think this may have been wrong as I can't
find a Llanmihangel in Denbighshire)
David " " 1842 Penmachno
Jane " " 1845 "
John " " 1849 "
The Daughter Jane married 1863 Conway to Joseph Hughes so I have all her information after that but I can't find any of the other members of the family in 1861 or after? All help would be very much appreciated

Hi
I think it's Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr

I might have some Clwyd booklets tucked away.

Not much to go on but it should help you get Jane's maiden name from new GRO records:
Jane Roberts bpt 30 Oct 1845, Penmachno.
John Roberts bpt 31st Jan 1849, Penmachno.
Parents David and Jane in both cases.

Thank you Gadget that looks more like it for Jane's Birthplace :)
-
Thanks Kay that looks like the right family on the 1871 Census. It is Tan Lan, some of the writing on these Census are terrible. It appears Jane has died as David is now a widower, so I now have a window to work from to try and find Jane's death, just wish I could find them on the 1861 Census.
-
I can't see the address in 1861 or the family having looked through the census images of the parish. I wonder if they were just missed :-\
Kay
-
Kay I have just done the very same search and you are right they have been missed >:(
-
Gadget thanks for the baptism information :) Where would I find the New GRO records? I have got a possible marriage for David Roberts & Jane Edwards in 1842. If I could find Jane's maiden name on these new records it really would help.
-
Wondering if they're on one of those missing pieces - a lot of teh 1861 went missing/destroyed - are there any other entries for that area.

Scroll down for Caernarfonshire.
Ellenmai - it's on the Certificate ordering site : https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp
You have to log on and go to Search the GRO Index: https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/indexes_search.asp
I'll have a go later if you want but got to go do cooking now!

I discovered today there are quite a few missing houses on the Penmachno 1861 Census >:(
Gadget, thanks for the link to the new GRO I have had a quick look but ran out of time as the kitchen calls for me too. If you wouldn't mind having a look for me later I would be most grateful. ;D

Is this the family in 1841 living at Tanlan, Penmachno?? All but Jane born in the county
David Roberts 30 Ag Lab
Jane Roberts 30
Morris Roberts 9
Cathrin Roberts 6
Robert Roberts 2
Morris Robert 70
-
I think so, Kay. I saw them earlier and went off looking for a marriage 1830+/-. Forgot to put it up :-X
-
I wonder if this is their marriage?? https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FGW1-383
The GRO birth index has births that could match for the children with mothers maiden name Roberts
-
The only mother's maiden surname that matches David, John and Jane's baptisms is Roberts.
I'm not 100% confident as they might not have been registered. However, there is a marriage for a David Roberts and Jane Roberts 21 january 1832, Penmachno.
All this possible only :-\
Need to see if a suitable Jane Roberts was baptised in LGM circa 1816
(Not the easiest set of names to match! I've lots of experience chasing Roberts around North Wales ::) )
Added - think we came to same conclusions, Kay :D
-
Always good when that happens :)
-
Baptism in Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr
10 March 1817 Jane Roberts d of John and Margaret Roberts
Can you check, Kay :D
-
Looks good :D My pudding just arrived ;D
-
Kay I agree the 1841 Census certainly looks like them, so the marriage would have been earlier than I originally thought. The marriage found in 1832 looks promising, but not sure about the baptism in 1817 as that would make Jane only 15 when she married, but could be a possible with parental permission. Hope you enjoyed your pud Kay and thank you both so much for all the time you have taken ;D Roberts isn't the easiest of families to search for in Wales :-\

Hi
I know this inquiry is over a year old but the following transcription of a gravestone in St Tudclud churchyard may be of interest.
Er cof am MORRIS ROBERTS, Tanlan, yr hwn a fu farw Tachwedd 1, 1842, yn 75 oed. Hefyd dau blant DAVID a JANE ROBERTS, Tanlan. JANE, yr hon fu farw Mehefin 22, 1859, yn 14 oed. ROBERT, fu farw Gorphenaf 1, 1863, yn 25 oed. Hefyd DAVID ROBERTS, eu mab, yr hwn a fu farw Ebrill 26ain, 1867, yn 26 oed. Hefyd y ddywededig JANE ROBERTS, yr hon a fu farw Mawrth 21in, 1870, yn 59 oed. Hefyd DAVID ROBERTS, ei phriod, a fu farw Mawrth 8, 1875, yn 60 oed.
Rough translation.
In memory of MORRIS ROBERTS, Tanlan, who died on November 1, 1842, was 75 years old. Also two children DAVID and JANE ROBERTS, Tanlan. JANE, who died June 22, 1859, at the age of 14. ROBERT, died July 1st, 1863, aged 25. Also DAVID ROBERTS, their son, who died April 26th, 1867, at the age of 26. Also said JANE ROBERTS, who died March 21in, 1870, at age 59. Also, DAVID ROBERTS, her spouse, who died on March 8, 1875, at the age of 60.
Ellenmai, if I understand your original message the daughter Jane born 1845, according to the 1851 census, married in Conway in 1863. However, this Jane died in 1859. An easy mistake considering the number of Jane Roberts in Wales at the time.

Hi again
I assume the Joseph and Jane Hughes mentioned are living in Penmachno in the 1871 Census.
RG10/5679/30/23
Joseph Hughes Stonemason aged 34 born Conway.
Jane Hughes aged 25 born Penmachno
Mariah aged 6
Grace aged 3
Hugh aged 1
There is a marriage at St Tudclud Church on 21st Nov 1863 between
Joseph Hughes Full Age stonemason father Hugh Hughes also a stonemason
and
Jane Hughes 19 father Evan Hughes Quarryman
Seems to fit.
Regards
Glyn
