In my tree I have a George Atkins who was born at Great Haywood, Staffordshire in 1821, married in 1843 Sarah Henshaw who was born at Great Haywood in 1822. In the 1851 census it shows that George is incarcerated in Aylesbury prison. I can find neither George nor his wife in any subsequent census.
Can s.k.s. please tell me where I can find further information as regards to his crime and whether he was transported.
Tks. in anticipation.

The George Atkins, prisoner in Buckingham Hill Gaol , Aylesbury, is listed as born in Chesham , Buckinghamshire. He doesn't appear to be the right George Atkins. Have you explored the possibility that the couple may have emigrated ?

I found a baptism for a William Atkins , son of George and Sarah , and the corresponding registration which confirms mother's maiden name as Henshaw :
William Atkins S Quarter Stafford v17 p130 ( Henshaw )
William is on the 1851 census :
Jane Atkins head 70 pauper b Stowe, Staffordshire
William Atkins 6 Grandson b Colwich
address Great Haywood Butts , Colwich
You may have this already but it may help others searching.

George Atkins of Great Haywood , aged 24 , buried 23 Sept 1846 at Colwich, Staffordshire.
I've not found a burial for Sarah , although there are possibilities among the registrations , and I can't see an obvious remarriage either.

Hello Catherine.
I got the original information from Family Search census.
Thank you for pulling the skeleton out of the cupboard and for all the other information that you have supplied me with. I now have more and better lines of enquiry.
