Hi, could someone please try and look up the parents for Elizabeth Hannah Hatley born 1872 Holborn and her sister Annie Amelia Hatley born 1875 Holborn. The family immigrated to South Africa aboard the "Basuto" and landed in Durban Natal in May 1875. Immigration transcription are not very accurate in South Africa - I think the parents are Joseph Henry Hatley and Elizabeth Alice Rowen but have never found proof of this.

Elizabeth Alice Rowen and Joseph Henry Hatley are both on that page.
So it seems highly likely what you have is correct, but getting birth certs would confirm 100%

Hi, Thank you both for your help - much appreciated. Lizbd, how would I go about getting a copy of the birth certificate as I am in South Africa? Could I ask one more favour - Elizabeth Alice Rowen (born 25/12/1853) parents should then be Thomas Rowan Born? and Hannah Stemman Rowen (born Siggs 23/5/1825). I can't find them on a census, they married in 1846, so I would think they would be in the 1851 census. Please could you try 1851, 1861 census and Thomas Rowen's birthdate and place?
Thanks so much

Here is where you can order certificates, you just need to register first.
You have the required reference details in prior messages.
Elizabeth Alice Rowen registered March quarter 1854 Strand Vol 1b p410 mother Siggs

On Elizabeth's marriage to Joseph, in 1871, she gives her father's name as John.
So, if her father turns out to be Thomas (very likely), then maybe he died when Elizabeth was very young, and she is on the censuses under a different name.

Still assuming that Thomas is the father pre arrival of birth certificate
Thomas Rowen, with father Alexander, was born c.1822 - Bristol.
Thomas Rowen was buried nr. Drury Lane in 1856 age 35
In 1858 Elizabeth Rowen age 4 is in Strand Workhouse with Hannah age 8

Thanks for your input - will do some more digging and see what comes out!!
