Title: Very old family photo most likely taken in Blackpool
Post by: sadge on Thursday 20 April 17 21:46 BST (UK)
Have had this for such a long time but not sure who it is or which side of family, can it possibly be dated. Many Thanks

Hi Sadge...I would say early 1890s but it's a good idea to show the back if you can.

I have a similar photo (without the plants) and I have an approximate date of 1880s. I have made it a little easier to see.

Thank you for the replies, Treetotal and Trishanne,

Treetotal the back of the picture is the same coulour as the borders on the one I posted very plain no writing of any kind.

Thank you Trishanne for making the photo easier to see, I shall study it further to see if I can work out which side of the family she might be from, not easy .

Never mind Susan it was what I expected as there is no photographer information on the front...the raised sleeve or Kick up was popular from about 1891 but as older people didn't always keep up with fashion it could be a little later.

Great photo. She looks like she has a story or two to tell.

The photo looks to have been kept behind a mount as the edging is less faded.

I think it could be a copy.

I think it could be a copy.

Because it is glued on that backing?

Now that you've said that Carol, I think she does look a bit odd stuck in the middle of that floral arrangement - as though she was superimposed. A studio trying to get a bit creative perhaps?  :)

I think it could be a memorial photo as it is edged in black and the photo has no photographer's name.

That seems plausible.  :)

Thanks everyone for your input. I googled memorial cabinet photos and there were many with decoration around them like this one. Does this mean the lady has died and given the foliage around the picture is holly and mistletoe could it be  December time. Just playing detective as there is two people I think this might be and am working it all out. Cannot thank you enough to making it look so much better than the real one we have that is actually damaged and taped at the top.

I think she looks to be in her 60s so maybe you need to be looking at someone born in the 1830s and possibly died in the mid late 1890s....just a rough idea. You could be right in respect of a December death.

Looks a bit like Betty Rimmer, nee Meadows, of Churchtown. Born 16 June 1845, and died on 2 Feb 1910.

If I had to guess  ::)
