I wonder if someone could please help, as there are very few herefordshire records online, a so many Great Grandfather John Blakeway was born 1755 in Bosbury hereford. It says his father is William Blakeway, i have found a baptism for William 1726 in Bishop Frome, hereford, but the only marriage i can find is to a Alice Baylis in 1744 in Much Cowarne hereford, but i cannot find any other children, so it feels like it is the wrong marriage, there should be marriage closer to John's Birth in 1755. I also cannot find a burial of a Alice Blakway.

so let me see if there is a marriage for William / Winnifred - or is her maiden name Winn ??...let me see what I can find .

do you know the occupation of William Blakeway ??..could he have been an Ag Lab and moved around the farms for work ?

Hi, thankyou so much for your reply, a few people have got that the parents could be William and Winifred, the only thing that put me off is, on all the other children, he put William and Winifred and yet Johns did not name the mother? They also could not find the marriage or death of Winifred. I would imagine he was a Ag Labourer, as all the other Blakeways were. Once again thankyou

I have never been to herefordshire archives, is it worth me going there, to see if there is any more records, which they have not got on line?

It is possible that what we see online is from bishops transcripts rather than parish records. Parish records sometimes have more information than the bishops transcripts
Hereford archives have an online catalog of their parish register holdings, interestingly Bosbury is one of a few places where they say the original records are not available to view, only the microfilm, this may be because they are held elsewhere, but possibly they are so fragile that they cannot disturb them, if they are in a poor state there maybe portions that are unreadable.

Looking at all the entries for Blakeway in bosbury there seems to be a gap between 1640 and1755 with no entries for that name, even though there are some before and after those dates, all of bosbury on familyseach seem to be from bishops transcripts, as no church is named.
You will be able to see the microfilm at Hereford archives but of course you just have to look at all the entries for each year, quite a task if they are hard to read.

It's amazing what you can find with a lot of googling, I was just checking that the church was not being rebuilt and found this by accident.
It seems the original registers are still at the church, it also says many are hard to read.

I live in Liverpool (Garston) my gg grandmother Mary Ann Merrick came to Garston in 1873 from Ochle Pychard - her father and many many ancestors were from Norton Canon - their wives were from Dilwyn / and other surrounding villages - my wife and I went to Norton Canon one Bank Holiday Weekend and visited the villages - a massive difference to a big city like Liverpool...we loved every minute of Herefordshire ...so go ...you will love it :)

Arranged it with my mum, so thanks for the reply, i do like that Hereford although have renamed some of the streets, they have left the old name up. It is so much better when my Blakeways make their way to Worcestershire, alot more records have survived .
