Is there a way to rotate a page on Lincstothepast. I want to review some baptisms and the page ( Worlaby by Brigg 1800 -1803 ) is impossible to read unless I turn sideways !! I find it difficult enough with the watermarks.
-
There's nothing on the toolbar to help you.
All I can suggest is a "screen capture", load the capture into Paint or some such program, then rotate it there.
-
Just a comment. I find that site terrible to use. A very good idea gone wrong probably through attempting to set it up in house and on the cheap.
-
Thanks to both of you for taking the trouble to reply.
We moved away from Lincolnshire and I thought I had lost the note book which I used in the days before the internet. However, I`ve had a good search this evening and found the one relating to the family I`m reviewing at the back of the cupboard, and even better it confirms my research is correct with source/citations listed. There is a big gap in the baptisms of this family, I now need to see if I can out why !
I agree with Redroger, it is not easy to use, in fact I`ve never had any success with it at all. I may try it at a later date when I start on another branch, but maybe Freereg will be more successful as I`ve found it very helpful so far.
-
I find the site very hard to use.
I also use FreeREG which has an extensive Lincs coverage.
-
I do use the site but often after finding things on freereg first. I sometimes like to check records either side of what I am looking at which you can't do with transcripts. It's fine if you aren't in a hurry. ;D
-
I also find Lincstothepast very difficult to use, a shame really as a lot of my research is in Lincolnshire......I have no problems with any other site, just that one, I hope that one day they can "simplify" it somewhat.
-
When I`ve seen replies to other people`s queries re Lincstothepast I thought it was me !
Today, I`ve tried to take a look at Appelby Burials; the images come up, but hovering the cursor over the images doesn`t give the years. As suggested it must have been done on the cheap- needs more thought and money put into it !
-
A brilliant idea strangled in the making.
-
Still it is better than nothing. How many other record offices have put that sort of information out there for free.
True it is not indexed but I know I am not alone in having spent hours trawling through registers on film & microfiche having travelled to get to the places to view it. One of the problems nowadays with so many records on these pay sites is that we expect everything available instantly & clearly. Perhaps they should have spent more money on it and charged for the service like Essex (Seax) ???
-
Going back to my original comment re the page I would like to view, if I was using microfiche I would just be able to rotate it.
I`ve spent many hours using both fiche and film, to be honest I prefer it, but I`ve gone from a 20 minute drive to Lincs Archives to 5 or 6 hours !!! My choice so I`m not complaing about that.

Findmypast has a Lincolnshire index which is free to use, although the details require credits or a subscription.
The images are bigger and can be rotated.

If you can give some names, dates and places, I can check if they are there and indicate the right page on LTP.
Recently, I found some records of people in an adjoining village to where they lived, even though their village had its own church.

The last 20 pages of this set have been 'posted' incorrectly. At the bottom of the page there is a feedback option, complete this and it will probably be sorted out within a few days.
I use the site a lot and have seen this before. E-mails sent and problems fixed.

Thanks for all the replies.
I have Joseph Turner married Elizabeth Ferraby 18th May1791, Thomas christened 1792, George 1794, John 1797 then Martha 1808, Samuel 1812, Dorothy 1813, Eliza 1815 and Susanna 1817.
My query was going to check these just to verify them. It seems there is a big gap between John 1797 and Martha 1808.
I know that Thomas Turner served in the Napoleonic War as it is on his burial record, confirmed by his gravestone in Worlaby churchyard. I`m unsure of the birth of Joseph Turner, but I wondered if he too served in this war.

Joseph Turner married Elizabeth Ferraby both of the parish on 18th May 1790
witnesses John Farnklin & Sarah Bencock
Other Baptisms at Worlaby
William 03 Mar 1791
Richard at 31 Dec 1809
-
Thanks Rosie, I have it as 18th May 1790, a mistake on my part when typing, have it on my tree and in my notebook. Also have baptisms of William and Richard , it`s just the query of the large gap between John 1797 and Martha 1808 must be for a good reason.
-
Have you tried searching freereg to see if they were living in another parish for this period
Worlaby only has around 60 baptisms from start of 1798 to end of 1807, so 5-6 a year

Could there have been two Elizabeths?
1851 census, Worlaby (piece 2116 folio 339 page 22) has Elizabeth Turner, 72, widow, and step son Joseph Turner, 52
In 1841 Samuel and Eliza Turner were with them, I think they would be married couple, and two children.
Death in Glanford Brigg district, June 1855, Elizabeth Turner, age 78 (so born circa 1777)
She was buried Worlaby, 26th April
There's a burial at Worlaby, 22 Sep 1805, of Elizabeth Turner. Died of consumption. Does it say she was 34?? Image is of the register on its side.

From FreeReg
Marriage, 23 February 1808, Worlaby by Brigg
Joseph Turner, widower
+
Elizabeth Girdham, spinster
-
Possible?
Baptism in Worlaby, 9 November 1777
Elizabeth Dr. of Richard + Dorothy Girdum
-
The age of Elizabeth in 1805 is 34 and ties in with a baptism of an Elizabeth Ferraby in Cadney on 14 Oct 1770, daughter of William and Elizabeth.

Which Elizabeth does BillieF descend from?
Death of Joseph?
June 1841 Glanford Brigg 14 272
Turner, Joseph
age 79
Joseph was buried at Worlaby, 29th May.
Age 78 on the burial record.
Just missed being on the 1841 census!
-
Thank you for all the replies.
I`ll look into the possibility that Joseph Turner married twice.
I descend from Joseph Turner and Elizabeth Ferraby, their son Thomas Turner 1792.

I tried Lincstothepast again, without success ! It wouldn`t even let me register.
However, today I`ve been to my local library armed with all the information which you all kindly looked up for me.
I am sure that the Elizabeth who died in 1805 age 34 is my direct ancestor. I looked on Findmypast at the marriage of Joseph to Elizabeth Girdham. The image was quite faded, but Joseph is described as a widower, first witness was Charles Girdham, I couldn`t make out the second witness ( just going to check Freereg. ) Freereg says the witnesses were Ellen Glover and Richard Girdham - I think I`ll take another look at FindMyPast.

Yes, you're right, but I wanted to leave a comment ! I tried 3 times to enter a password to no avail.
